Apple’s MacBook Air with M5: Smarter, Faster, and More Powerful Than Ever

Apple has unveiled the new MacBook Air with M5, bringing exceptional performance and expanded AI capabilities to the world’s most popular laptop. Designed for everyone from college students and creative professionals to business users, the latest MacBook Air combines the power of Apple’s new M5 chip with enhanced storage, faster wireless connectivity and the seamless experience of macOS Tahoe.

Available in 13-inch and 15-inch models, the new MacBook Air will be available for pre-order starting March 4, with availability beginning March 11.

Next-Level Performance with M5
At the heart of the new MacBook Air is the M5 chip, delivering remarkable performance gains across productivity, creative workflows and AI-driven tasks. M5 features a 10-core CPU, including the world’s fastest CPU core, and an up-to-10-core GPU equipped with a Neural Accelerator in each core. This enables up to four times faster AI task performance compared to MacBook Air with M4, and up to 9.5 times faster AI performance compared to MacBook Air with M1.

With enhanced shader cores and a third-generation ray-tracing engine, M5 significantly boosts graphics-intensive workloads such as gaming and 3D rendering. Faster unified memory with 153GB/s of bandwidth — a 28 per cent improvement over M4 — ensures smoother multitasking and quicker app launches.

From AI video enhancement in Topaz Video and 3D rendering in Blender to image processing in Affinity, the new MacBook Air delivers substantial performance improvements across professional applications. Web browsing is also up to 50 per cent faster compared to a PC laptop with an Intel Core Ultra X7 processor, while more demanding tasks can see up to twice the performance.

Double the Storage, Faster Than Ever
For the first time, MacBook Air now comes standard with 512GB of storage — double that of the previous generation — and can be configured up to 4TB.

The new SSD delivers up to twice the read and write speeds compared to before, significantly accelerating file access and streamlining workflows for creators importing large photo libraries, students running AI workloads on the device and professionals managing complex projects.

Enhanced Connectivity with Apple’s N1 Chip
Connectivity leaps forward with N1, Apple’s new wireless networking chip supporting Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 for improved speed, reliability and lower latency.

MacBook Air features two Thunderbolt 4 ports with support for up to two external displays, making it ideal for professionals and students who need an expanded workspace. MagSafe provides dedicated charging for added convenience and peace of mind.

A Stunning, Portable Design
The new MacBook Air continues to stand out with its beautifully thin, light and completely silent fanless aluminium design.

Available in four elegant finishes — sky blue, midnight, starlight and silver — it comes with a choice of a 13.6-inch or 15.3-inch Liquid Retina display. Both displays offer 500 nits of brightness and support for one billion colours, delivering vivid visuals and sharp detail.

Users can enjoy up to 18 hours of battery life, up to six hours more than Intel-based MacBook Air models, along with a 12MP Centre Stage camera with Desk View for more engaging video calls, a three-microphone array for enhanced voice clarity and an immersive sound system with Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos.

Powered by macOS Tahoe and Apple Intelligence
macOS Tahoe enhances the MacBook Air experience with a refreshed design featuring Liquid Glass elements and expanded personalisation options for folders, app icons and widgets. Apple Intelligence is deeply integrated across the system, bringing features such as Live Translation in Messages, smarter Reminders that automatically categorise actions and more powerful Shortcuts that tap directly into Apple Intelligence models.

Continuity features such as the Phone app on Mac and Live Activities via iPhone Mirroring create a seamless ecosystem experience, while a new Edge Light effect provides flattering fill light during video calls.

Designed with the Environment in Mind
MacBook Air with M5 is made with 55 per cent recycled content, including 100 per cent recycled aluminium in the enclosure and 100 per cent recycled cobalt in the battery.

It is manufactured using 50 per cent renewable electricity across the supply chain and comes in 100 per cent fibre-based, recyclable packaging, supporting Apple’s goal of becoming carbon neutral across its entire footprint by 2030.
