Apple Intelligence, a groundbreaking personal intelligence system, will begin rolling out next month with iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1. This powerful system combines generative models with personal context to deliver intelligence that is highly relevant and useful, designed to simplify tasks while ensuring user privacy.
The first features of Apple Intelligence will launch in U.S. English, with more languages and regions coming soon.
Launching first in the U.S., Apple Intelligence will expand to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the U.K. in December, with additional language support for Chinese, French, Japanese, Spanish, and Singapore English arriving next year.
Key Features Arriving with Apple Intelligence
Apple Intelligence brings a host of new features designed to enhance productivity and everyday tasks. Writing Tools allow users to rewrite, proofread, and summarize text across apps like Mail, Notes, Pages, and even third-party applications.
In the Photos app, users can create movies by simply typing a description, and they can now search for specific photos or moments in videos using natural language. The new Clean Up tool helps users remove distracting objects from the background of photos, ensuring a clutter-free experience.
For audio recording, Apple Intelligence introduces features like automatic transcription and summaries in Notes and the Phone app. During calls, participants will be notified when a recording starts and a summary will be generated at the end to capture key points.
In addition, Apple Intelligence enhances notifications with features like Reduce Interruptions, a Focus mode that prioritizes important alerts, and Priority Messages in Mail, which highlights time-sensitive emails. Smart Reply offers quick response suggestions and ensures questions in emails are fully answered, making communication more efficient.
Siri Becomes More Natural and Capable
Siri leaps forward with Apple Intelligence, offering a more natural and flexible user experience.
The updated Siri design includes a glowing light that wraps around the edge of the screen when active on iPhone, iPad, or CarPlay. On Mac, Siri can be placed anywhere on the desktop for easy access while multitasking.
More Features to Roll Out Soon
Apple Intelligence will continue to evolve with more features launching later this year. Image Playground will let users create playful images using context from their surroundings.
Image Wand will turn sketches into detailed images by filling in gaps with relevant content. Additionally, users will be able to create custom emojis called Genmoji by typing descriptions or using photos of friends and family.
Siri will gain even more capabilities, including personalized context awareness and onscreen intelligence to interact with content across apps. Apple Intelligence will also allow users to access ChatGPT within Siri and Writing Tools, providing access to broad world knowledge and specialized assistance without switching between apps.
Privacy at the Core of Apple Intelligence
Apple has designed Apple Intelligence with privacy at its core. Most features run on-device, ensuring user data is not shared. When complex requests require cloud-based processing, Private Cloud Compute ensures data is handled securely and not stored or shared with Apple. Independent experts continuously inspect Apple’s cloud infrastructure to verify the safety and privacy of user data.
Deeply integrated into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, Apple Intelligence leverages the power of Apple silicon to process tasks quickly and securely. Many of its models run entirely on-device, ensuring that user data remains private. For more complex tasks, Private Cloud Compute extends processing power securely to Apple’s cloud infrastructure, all while keeping user data safe.
Availability
Apple Intelligence will be available as a free software update starting next month with iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1. The update will be available for iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and devices with M1 chips and later.
