Canon Unveils the EOS R100: Compact, Affordable, and High-Performing

Canon has introduced the EOS R100, the latest addition to its EOS R system camera lineup, which boasts the title of being the smallest, lightest, and most affordable model to date. With an APS-C size CMOS image sensor, the EOS R100 delivers clear and sharp images with impressive detail resolution. Weighing approximately 356g, equivalent to a 330ml canned drink, it is Canon’s most lightweight camera in the EOS R series, making it easy to carry in an everyday bag and ready to capture fleeting moments and precious memories.

Plus, Automatic image transfer: Set up the automatic image transfer for seamless connectivity: your photos and videos will appear in your phone’s library shortly after you take them.

Edwin Teoh, Head of Marketing, Singapore Operations at Canon Singapore, expressed the company’s commitment to accessibility, stating, “At Canon, we believe in enabling accessibility. This new addition to the EOS R family seamlessly merges affordability, innovation, and performance. We invite users to unlock the limitless possibilities of our ground-breaking EOS R system and RF lens ecosystem to experience photography and videography like never before. The EOS R100 was designed to inspire all photographers, regardless of their budget or skill level.”

In addition to the EOS R100, Canon has also announced the RF28mm f/2.8 STM, the first-ever “pancake” prime lens in the RF lens lineup. This lens provides a compact and flat combination with both full-frame and APS-C EOS R cameras, offering excellent image quality and a large maximum aperture in an extremely portable form factor.

Measuring less than 2.5cm when retracted and weighing around 120g, similar to a bar of soap, the RF28mm f/2.8 STM lives up to its “pancake” name with its thin profile. It adds minimal size and weight to the camera, making it convenient to carry even without a lens cap. Whether travelling light, exploring the streets, shooting long videos, or vlogging handheld, users can enjoy the lightest, flattest, and most portable combination possible with their full-frame or APS-C camera.

As the lightest, thinnest, and smallest prime lens in the EOS R ecosystem, the RF28mm f/2.8 STM is unobtrusive, seamlessly pairing with the camera body to unlock a world of creative possibilities. Despite its slim and compact profile, the RF28mm f/2.8 STM delivers exceptional performance and features that will appeal to a large segment of photographers.

Canon has introduced the Off-Camera Shoe Cord OC-E4A, which replaces the previous OC-E3 model. This new cord serves as a versatile hotshoe extension, enabling photographers to position hotshoe accessories like flashes and microphones off-camera while ensuring reliable communication. The OC-E4A allows for enhanced creative expression by expanding the possibilities of accessory placement.

Both the camera connector and accessory connector of the cord are equipped with dust- and water-resistant capabilities, similar to those found in Canon’s professional EOS-1D series cameras
