A. Lange & Söhne Unveils Limited Edition ODYSSEUS CHRONOGRAPH, Featuring Innovative Self-Winding Chronograph Movement

A. Lange & Söhne, the renowned watchmakers, released their first sporty-elegant timepiece, the ODYSSEUS, four years ago, featuring a distinct design and a customized, exquisitely finished movement. The ODYSSEUS CHRONOGRAPH is the latest addition to this successful watch family. It boasts a newly developed L156.1 caliber encased in stainless steel, making it the first A. Lange & Söhne self-winding chronograph movement.

This timepiece demonstrates the manufacturer’s relentless pursuit of innovative and dynamic functions, including the ability to reset the chronograph hands to zero. The ODYSSEUS CHRONOGRAPH is a horological marvel and comes in a limited edition of only 100 watches.

By expanding the measuring range of the chronograph from 30 to 60 minutes, Lange’s developers have opened up new possibilities for its application. Furthermore, the chronograph is equipped with an innovative and dynamic reset-to-zero function. When the reset-to-zero button is pressed at 4 o’clock after timing, an impressive display occurs the minute counter returns to its starting position in the traditional manner, while the red chrono seconds hand completes a full revolution for every measured minute in a fraction of a second.

The ODYSSEUS CHRONOGRAPH is housed in a sturdy, three-part stainless-steel case with a diameter of 42.5 millimetres, which is pressure-resistant up to 12 bar and durable enough to endure physical activities. The case, like other watches in the family, has matte surfaces and chamfered edges that create a striking interplay of light. The chamfered edges are also evident on the lugs and links of the solid stainless-steel bracelet.

The ODYSSEUS CHRONOGRAPH is powered by the L156.1 DATOMATIC calibre, which is A. Lange & Söhne’s first self-winding chronograph movement. The name DATOMATIC comes from a combination of “date” and “automatic”.

A partially black-rhodium central rotor made of 950 platinum and skeletonized is responsible for efficient winding. The mainspring barrel, when fully wound, provides a power reserve of up to 50 hours. The oscillation system is designed to ensure the best rate accuracy. To achieve this, the balance is placed beneath the balance bridge, beating at a frequency of 28,800 semi-oscillations per hour (4 hertz). The balance is also hand-engraved with a wave pattern that alludes to the water resistance of the watch and its potential uses in sports environments.

The ODYSSEUS CHRONOGRAPH comes in a limited edition of 100 watches.
