For someone who spends much of the day juggling emails, meetings, presentations and social media, the iPhone Duo makes an interesting proposition. It is still a phone when you need it to be, but unfold it, and suddenly there is considerably more room to work with.

The first thing that stands out is its unconventional design. Unlike the typical tall smartphone, the Duo opens like a small book, transforming its compact 5.4-inch outer display into a spacious 7.6-inch OLED screen. The titanium construction feels suitably premium, while the nano-texture inner display helps minimise reflections and makes the central crease less distracting.

There is also a surprisingly playful side to the phone. With its Always-On display, a personalised wallpaper can remain visible even after the phone is locked, adding some character to an otherwise professional-looking device.
A more practical way to multitask
Under the hood, Apple’s A20 Pro chip keeps the device well equipped for demanding applications and multitasking.

Where the Duo really makes its case is productivity. Its Split View feature allows two apps to run side by side, which makes a real difference when working away from a laptop.

Imagine having an email open on one half of the screen while referring to a document on the other, or comparing two websites while researching information for a presentation. Instead of repeatedly switching between apps, everything stays within view. You can even save frequently used app pairs, making it easier to return to a familiar workflow.

The larger display is also welcome for reading lengthy reports, reviewing PDFs and browsing spreadsheets. During video conferences, the foldable design becomes particularly useful. Prop the Duo up on a desk, and it can function as a hands-free meeting screen.

Siri AI adds another dimension to productivity, offering a conversational assistant that can help with information gathering while another app remains open.
Work aside, there’s plenty of room to unwind.
After a long day, the Duo’s expansive display is equally appealing for entertainment. Watching Netflix or YouTube feels more immersive than on a conventional iPhone, while the adjustable hinge means the phone can rest on a table without requiring a separate stand.

Social media gets an interesting makeover too. Instagram and TikTok can take advantage of the larger screen, making it easier to browse content and read comments.

For anyone managing business social media accounts, the additional space is useful when reviewing posts or checking captions.

One small touch I liked was the StandBy mode. Even when I am not actively using it, it still keeps useful information like the time, widgets and notifications within easy reach.

For photography, the Duo features two 48-megapixel rear cameras that are capable of handling everyday shots, events and social media content. The ability to show subjects a live preview on the outer screen is especially handy for group photographs.
Other factors to consider
At 254g, it is noticeably weighty. However, the relatively compact outer display is convenient for checking messages.

Battery life is another consideration. Apple rates the Duo for up to 24 hours of typical use, and I managed to work on it the whole day with no battery issues, including streaming videos.
The iPhone Duo is arguably most appealing to business professionals, executives and content creators who spend significant time working between meetings, commuting and travelling.

Its larger display brings genuine advantages to multitasking, document viewing and research, without sacrificing the convenience of carrying a phone.
The Duo offers a refreshing new way to experience the iPhone. It retails from S$3,099. Find out more here.
