Spyro: A Realm Beyond Reveals Arcadian Vale as the Purple Dragon Prepares to Take Flight

Spyro fans have been given another glimpse at Spyro: A Realm Beyond, with Activision and Toys for Bob using this year’s Spyro Community Day to reveal Arcadian Vale, one of the first regions players will encounter in the purple dragon’s next adventure.

The reveal comes several months after A Realm Beyond was announced in June as an original new chapter in the long-running platforming series. Developed by Toys for Bob, the game is being designed to retain familiar elements of Spyro while significantly expanding how players can move through its world — most notably by giving Spyro the freedom of true flight.

First Look at Arcadian Vale
The biggest new reveal for Spyro Community Day is Arcadian Vale, described as one of the early regions players will discover in A Realm Beyond.

The new environment appears designed to capture the colourful fantasy aesthetic associated with the series, with towering cliffs, cascading waterfalls, ancient stone structures, weathered monuments and lush vegetation filling the valley. Smaller creatures and the series’ familiar fodder animals also populate the environment.

Toys for Bob says it has paid particular attention to smaller environmental details in an effort to make the new world feel lively and inviting rather than simply providing large spaces for players to fly across.

Spyro Can Finally Truly Fly
That increased scale ties into one of A Realm Beyond’s most significant gameplay changes.

Unlike the more restricted gliding and specialised flying sections of earlier Spyro adventures, the new game is being built around true dragon flight, opening up considerably greater freedom to explore its environments from the air.

It does not mean Toys for Bob is abandoning Spyro’s traditional platforming mechanics. Charging, jumping, gliding and collecting treasure remain fundamental parts of the game, with full flight being added to broaden the sense of movement, exploration and discovery.

Toys for Bob has said its goal is to make the sort of Spyro game longtime fans might have imagined when they first encountered the franchise, while using the new adventure to explore ideas that were not possible in the earlier games.

A Community Day With a Fiery Surprise
Activision also marked Spyro Community Day with a rather appropriate real-world surprise.

Special burn-away cakes were sent to fans, content creators and members of the press. What initially appears to be an ordinary cake changes as its top layer burns away, revealing a hidden design beneath — a playful nod to Spyro’s fire-breathing abilities.

The celebration continues a tradition of using September to recognise the community that has supported Spyro through the original trilogy, subsequent games and the more recent Spyro Reignited Trilogy.

A New Chapter for Spyro
A Realm Beyond is particularly significant because it is not another remaster. Toys for Bob describes it as an original new chapter built for both longtime players and a new generation discovering Spyro for the first time.

Arcadian Vale provides an early indication of how the studio intends to balance those two goals. Visually, its colourful landscapes, ancient structures and playful creatures retain much of the warmth associated with classic Spyro, while the introduction of unrestricted flight could fundamentally change how players navigate those environments.

More details about Spyro: A Realm Beyond are expected as development progresses.
