Mark your calendar! 19 October 2018 is the official launch of NXT in Malaysia, and it’s happening at the Canon PhotoMarathon in Sunway Pyramid.
We are the official digital media for the event and we’d like to see you at our booth! What can you expect? A peek of our print magazines published in Singapore, amp up your interest for lifestyle and technology (we aren’t just a hardware magazine!), win awesome exclusive gadgets in our exclusive contest, and meet gorgeous NXT Angels like me.
So what exactly is an NXT Angel…
Hello, my name is Vanessa.
In 2017, I participated in Singapore’s NXT Angels competition where eight girls wrote product reviews and modeled for the magazine. I didn’t win though, but I took on an internship with NXT right after my ‘A’ Levels. Initially, I wrote for the Lifestyle section and contributed to the News section and nxtmag.tech.
Writing for food, movies, music and streaming was so much fun! Besides sitting in the office and writing articles, I got to try delectable food all over Singapore and catch movie premieres. The best part of the internship? Trying all sorts of new gadgets like cameras, headphones, printers, smartphones and more. There’s a thrill in unboxing a gadget that’s newly launched and playing around with it, before sharing my personal experience.
Scroll through the website’s Angels section, and you can see the articles I wrote for Canon PIXMA printer, Canon M100, Sennheiser headphones and earphones, Fujifilm X-T100 and instax Square SQ6, Sony Xperia, Fitbit and many more. I had the privilege of bringing some of the gadgets along with me when I travel and it helped me capture memories and stay entertained during long rides.
Is it challenging? Occasionally. I learned that in publishing, deadlines are extra crucial as there are so many processes behind putting a magazine in the newsstands and any delays will affect thousands of copies of magazines. Even after 10 months as a contributing writer, my writing isn’t perfect and I still make mistakes (yes, I still use Grammarly), but I’m learning so much about writing and technology with every article I write and every product I try. Over time, I picked up skills from the previous editor Justin Choo and the funniest editor ever, Shawn Chung.
I am really excited to see nxtmag.tech reach out to an audience beyond the shores of Singapore. Malaysia is one of my favourite weekend hangout spots (shopping in Kuala Lumpur, trying street food in Johor Bahru night markets, relaxing in one of the many massage parlours, chilling in a staycation near Tuas checkpoint), and I would love to connect with you.
