Apple HomePod mini 2 Gets Smarter with Siri AI, Immersive Audio and Colourful New Design

Apple has unveiled the HomePod mini 2, bringing a significant upgrade to its compact smart speaker with more intelligent voice assistance, enhanced audio capabilities and a fresh selection of colours. Designed to fit effortlessly into any living space, the new HomePod mini combines music, smart home control and everyday convenience in one compact device.

Available in pink, green, blue, white and midnight, the HomePod mini 2 retains its familiar rounded design while introducing new features that make it more than just a speaker. From creating an immersive home theatre experience to helping users manage their daily routines, Apple’s latest smart speaker aims to become a more useful part of everyday life.

Siri AI Brings More Natural Conversations
One of the biggest upgrades is the introduction of Siri AI, powered by Apple’s latest generation of Foundation Models. Unlike conventional voice assistants that rely heavily on specific commands, Siri AI is designed to understand more natural conversations, respond to follow-up questions and provide more useful answers.

When paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, HomePod mini 2 will be able to draw on personal context to help users complete everyday tasks. For instance, users could ask Siri to find a song recommended by a friend in a message, locate a recipe mentioned in an email or add ingredients to a grocery list.

Siri AI can also tap into broader world knowledge, allowing users to ask questions across a wide range of topics without having to reach for their phones. The speaker can recognise up to six household members by voice, providing a more personalised experience for music, reminders and other supported functions.

Importantly, Siri AI will arrive through a future free software update rather than at launch. The feature will support English in Singapore, although personal-context capabilities require a compatible Apple Intelligence-enabled device.

Bigger Sound from a Compact Speaker
Despite its small footprint, the HomePod mini 2 is designed to deliver rich, room-filling 360-degree audio. Powered by the Apple S10 chip, it uses computational audio to analyse music in real time and optimise sound performance, including dynamic range and loudness.

Users can enjoy music through a single speaker, pair two units for stereo sound or connect multiple HomePod speakers throughout the home for a synchronised listening experience.

For movie enthusiasts, the HomePod mini 2 introduces an exciting new capability when paired with the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K. Up to four compatible speakers can work together to create a surround sound setup, with the system automatically recognising their positions and adjusting audio timing and levels to suit the room.

The speaker can also serve as a default audio output for a Mac, providing a more expansive listening experience for movies, gaming, FaceTime calls and everyday desktop use.

Sound Glow Adds a Little Personality
Apple is also introducing Sound Glow, a new visual feature that transforms the top of the HomePod mini 2 into a colourful display of light.

As music plays, the illuminated surface glows and pulses in response to the rhythm, reacting to bass and treble in real time. The lighting can also reflect colours from the album artwork of the song currently playing, creating a unique visual atmosphere for different tracks.

For quieter moments, users can select relaxing soundscapes, such as rainfall, accompanied by matching light animations. It is a thoughtful addition that makes the HomePod mini 2 feel more like a decorative home accessory rather than simply another piece of technology.

A Smarter Way to Manage Your Home
Beyond entertainment, the HomePod mini 2 doubles as a smart home hub, allowing users to control compatible connected accessories using Siri or the Apple Home app.

Simple voice commands can be used to turn off lights, adjust thermostats, lower blinds or lock compatible doors. Users can also create automated routines that control several accessories simultaneously, such as preparing the home for bedtime or switching off devices when leaving.

The speaker also supports Sound Recognition, which can detect the sound of a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm and send a notification to the user’s iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch. Users can then check in remotely through the Home app.

Privacy remains an important part of the experience. Apple says Siri AI requests can be processed on-device or through Private Cloud Compute, where information is not stored or made accessible to Apple.

Designed with Sustainability in Mind
The HomePod mini 2 also incorporates recycled materials, including 100 per cent recycled rare earth elements in its magnets and recycled copper, gold plating and tin solder in Apple-designed printed circuit boards.

Its packaging is entirely fibre-based and designed to be recyclable, reflecting Apple’s ongoing efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its products.

The Apple HomePod mini 2 is priced at S$199 in Singapore.
