Daniel Roth presents the Extra Plat Rose Gold Skeleton, an openworked reinterpretation of one of the maison’s most emblematic creations. Conceived in the spirit of La Montre Objet d’Art, this latest release preserves the classical architecture of the original Extra Plat while unveiling the inner brilliance of a newly developed manually wound calibre, the DR002SR.

Balancing restraint with revelation, the timepiece celebrates the art of reduction — where what is removed becomes as important as what remains.
The Extra Plat: A Signature Revisited
For Daniel Roth, simplicity has never meant simplicity of execution.

During his early years as an independent watchmaker, Mr Roth regarded the Extra Plat as a complication in its own right — second only to the tourbillon in his hierarchy of horological achievements. Its apparent minimalism concealed a formidable technical challenge: achieving thinness without sacrificing structural integrity or precision.
Encased within the brand’s distinctive double-ellipse silhouette, the Extra Plat became a cornerstone of Daniel Roth’s identity — defined by proportion, balance, and disciplined construction.
In the early 1990s, shortly after founding his namesake brand, MMrRoth began skeletonising select references in extremely limited quantities. These early openworked creations were painstaking technical exercises, showcasing slender architecture, open volumes, and meticulous hand-finishing.

The new Extra Plat Rose Gold Skeleton continues this tradition — translating archival spirit into contemporary expression. Produced in limited numbers each year, it retains the refinement of the double-ellipse case while revealing the mechanical logic that has always defined the brand’s aesthetic philosophy.
A Heart of Gold
At the centre of the timepiece lies the calibre DR002SR, a newly shaped manually wound movement manufactured entirely in-house at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton.
Derived from the DR002, the DR002SR reimagines the original architecture with newly designed bridges and plates specifically conceived for skeletonisation. Every structural element has been reconsidered to allow light to pass through the movement while maintaining rigidity and chronometric precision.
The result is a movement that feels suspended within the case — airy yet resolute, delicate yet robust.
Transparency in Motion
Skeletonisation is the art of subtraction. It demands not only technical expertise but artistic sensitivity — removing material while preserving harmony.

In the Extra Plat Rose Gold Skeleton, the artisan’s hand is unmistakable. The numerous internal angles — impossible to achieve through automated machining — are shaped and polished entirely by hand. Each sharply defined transition bears witness to hours of patient craftsmanship.

From bevelling to black polishing, every stage of finissage is completed in-house at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, reinforcing the maison’s commitment to traditional techniques executed under one roof.
Reduced to its essential form, the DR002SR becomes a mechanical gallery — an exhibition of traditional savoir-faire expressed through negative space.
Limited in production and rich in heritage, the Extra Plat Rose Gold Skeleton stands as both a tribute to the past and a testament to enduring horological artistry.
