Blancpain and Swatch have collaborated to unveil a vibrant and technologically advanced collection of five watches, aptly named the Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms Collection. This non-limited collection dives deep into the celebration of the five oceans, a cause close to Blancpain’s ethos. These watches blend the brilliance of both brands, featuring water-resilient bioceramic materials and a mechanical movement boasting a 90-hour power reserve.
This new series commemorates the 70th anniversary of the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, a timepiece that marked a transformative era as the inaugural true diver’s watch. Crafted with bioceramics, a groundbreaking fusion of ceramic and biomaterials from castor oil, these watches are an avant-garde reinterpretation of the original. The distinctive colours hint at Swatch’s influence, but the design elements unmistakably echo the classic Fifty Fathoms, along with elements of Swatch’s Scuba range.
Integral features of the Fifty Fathoms are retained, like the distinctive case, the unidirectional rotating bezel for dive-timing, and an anti-magnetic self-winding movement— here showcased as the SISTEM51 with the Nivachron antimagnetic balance spring.
Blancpain’s CEO, Marc A. Hayek, views this collaboration as a testament to both brands’ pioneering spirit. He praises Swatch for its reinterpretation of the iconic model and highlights the meticulous detailing, especially the water resistance up to 91 meters, a nod to the ’50 fathoms’ measure.
The collection introduces new hues to the classic Fifty Fathoms, adding a playful twist. Each watch adorns the combined Blancpain X Swatch logo on the dial and crown, and straps crafted from recycled ocean fishing nets.
Launching on September 9, these watches are exclusive to select Swatch stores globally. They’ll be showcased in unique diving cases and will be featured in certain Blancpain boutiques for display, but not purchase.
The Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms Collection is retailing at SGD 565 per model, only available in selected Swatch Stores.
