Available in five aluminium finishes (Blue, Green, Black, White and Red), the new 6.1-inch iPhone 12 is already in stores since October 23 while the 5.4-inch mini counterpart will be available on November 13. The newly designed iPhone models will feature edge-to-edge Super Retina XDR displays with a 2 million-to-1 contrast ratio for true blacks for an immersive HDR viewing experience, detailed photos and more. It is also designed with the new Ceramic Shield front cover which added a new high temperature crystalisation step that grows nano-ceramic crystals within the glass matrix, increasing drop performance by 4x. Rated for the IP68 water-resistance standard, the iPhone 12 models are safe from everyday spills and up to 6 metres deep for up to 30 minutes.
Introduction to 5G
With the introduction of the advanced 5G experience, the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 mini boasts improved speeds for faster downloads and uploads, higher quality video streaming, more responsive gaming, real-time interactivity in apps, FaceTime in high definition, and more. The new models’ speed can reach up to 4Gbps and users can enjoy stable and fast connections even in densely populated areas. Understanding the battery concerns of their users, the iPhone 12 models will feature Smart Data mode, which extends battery life by intelligently assessing 5G needs and balancing data usage, speed, and power in real time.
As quoted by Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, “The arrival of 5G marks the beginning of a new era for iPhone and we’re thrilled to bring these impressive new capabilities to our customers with iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini.”
The A14 Bionic chip has the fastest CPU and GPU by up to 50 percent compared to the fastest competing smartphone chips. This is good news for users, especially gamers and photographers. The chip also features a 16-core Neural Engine — for an 80 percent increase in performance — that is capable of completing 11 trillion operations per second, enabling improved performance on even the most intense machine learning models.
MagSafe
The new iPhone 12 models are also equipped with MagSafe for high-powered wireless charging and a new easily attached ecosystem of accessories. Charging solutions include the MagSafe Charger and MagSafe Duo Charger for use with iPhone and Apple Watch, as well as new silicone, leather, and clear cases that easily snap onto the back of iPhone, and a leather wallet.
Dual-Camera System
Equipped with the new dual-camera system, the iPhone 12 models feature the Ultra Wide camera and a new Wide camera with an ƒ/1.6 aperture, providing 27 percent more light for low-light photos and videos. Improved photos can also be observed with the Night mode and faster-performing Deep Fusion – TrueDepth, Wide, and Ultra Wide. Videography will be enhanced with the pioneering feature of shooting HDR videos with Dolby Vision and improved cinematic video stabilisation.
Commitment to Environment
Due to their commitment to have net zero climate impact across the entire business including manufacturing supply chains and all product life cycles, Apple is removing the power adapter and EarPods from iPhone packaging. This allows for 70 percent more boxes to be shipped on a pallet and a cut of over 2 million metric tons of carbon emissions annually
