Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 Brings Flagship Sound to a Pocket-Friendly Design

Sennheiser has introduced the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5, its latest flagship true wireless earbuds, bringing the audio technology and features of its full-size MOMENTUM headphones into a much smaller package.

Designed for listeners who want high-quality sound without compromising on portability, the new earbuds combine Sennheiser’s signature audio tuning with improved active noise cancellation (ANC), Dolby Atmos® support, replaceable batteries and Bluetooth 6.0 connectivity.

According to Sennheiser, the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 has been redesigned from the ground up to deliver a more comfortable fit, better call quality and improved everyday durability.

“We set out to bring the larger-than-life sound and connected technology of the MOMENTUM series into a remarkably compact format,” said Frank Foppe, Product Manager. “From its exquisite audio reproduction to the advanced hardware powering it all, MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 represents our most advanced integration of audio technology in an earbud.”

Flagship Sound in a Smaller Package
At the heart of the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 is Sennheiser’s 7mm TrueResponse dynamic transducer, designed to deliver detailed highs, rich mids and powerful bass.

The earbuds support Bluetooth 6.0 and aptX Adaptive, with high-resolution audio streaming of up to 24-bit/96kHz. Supported devices can also take advantage of aptX Lossless for bit-perfect wireless audio.

The earbuds also feature an upgraded adaptive hybrid ANC system with an automatic anti-wind mode. A redesigned ear tip and four-microphone array work together to improve noise cancellation, while the transparency mode has been refined to provide a more natural listening experience when users need to hear what’s happening around them.

Call quality has received an upgrade too. The MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 uses six microphones alongside two bone-conduction voice accelerometers and an AI-powered speech extraction algorithm to isolate the user’s voice from surrounding noise.

Dolby Atmos® Comes to the Earbuds
Sennheiser has also brought the spatial audio capabilities of its latest over-ear MOMENTUM headphones to the True Wireless 5.

The earbuds are optimised for Dolby Atmos® and feature interactive head tracking, creating a more immersive spatial audio experience.

The technology is designed to make compatible movies, music and other entertainment feel more like listening through a larger home theatre setup, only in a pocket-sized pair of earbuds.

Replaceable Batteries for Longer Lifespan
One of the most interesting additions is something that is still relatively uncommon among true wireless earbuds: user-replaceable batteries.

Both the earbuds and charging case use replaceable battery systems, allowing users to refresh the batteries when they eventually begin to lose capacity. Sennheiser says the process can be completed using a compact screwdriver, potentially extending the usable lifespan of the earbuds well beyond the typical battery degradation cycle.

The earbuds themselves offer up to 12 hours of playback on a single charge, while the Qi-enabled wireless charging case provides more than two additional full charges for up to 40 hours of total listening time.

Need a quick top-up? An eight-minute charge can provide up to one hour of playback.

“Balancing compact size, our signature high-fidelity acoustics, and a replaceable battery is a breakthrough,” said Lilika Beck, President of Sennheiser Consumer Hearing. “With MOMENTUM True Wireless 5, we are proving that cutting-edge performance does not have to sacrifice longevity.”

Designed for a More Comfortable Fit
Sennheiser has also reworked the physical design of the earbuds.

The new housing features a streamlined, aerodynamic shape based on data from thousands of different ear models. The previous generation’s fins have been removed, resulting in a cleaner design that Sennheiser says was rated as more comfortable by 73% of testers.

The earbuds are also rated IP54 for protection against dust, sweat and splashes, making them better suited for everyday use and workouts.

A micro-perforated acoustic microphone plate helps reduce wind turbulence, which can improve both call quality and ANC performance when you’re outdoors.

The charging case has received an overhaul as well, with a slimmer, more pocket-friendly shape and a low-friction finish designed to make it easier to pull in and out of pockets.

Built for Modern Connectivity
The MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 is equipped with Bluetooth 6.0, alongside support for Google Fast Pair, Microsoft Swift Pair and multipoint connectivity.

For environments with lots of wireless interference, Sennheiser has added a selectable Robust Mode, which is designed to maintain a stable connection in crowded RF environments.

The earbuds are also powered by Snapdragon Sound™, supporting high-resolution wireless audio through aptX Lossless as well as a low-latency mode aimed at gamers.

For further customisation, the Smart Control Plus app provides an eight-band EQ, Sound Personalisation and a range of additional settings. The app can also be used as a platform for future performance and feature updates.

Pricing and Availability
The Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 will be available in five metallic finishes: Graphite, Cream, Copper, Denim and Lavender.

The earbuds are available now through Sennheiser’s website and selected retailers at $479.
