ZENITH CHRONOMASTER Solo Sport Brings El Primero Precision to a Three-Hand Watch

Powered by the high-frequency El Primero 3620 movement, ZENITH’s latest CHRONOMASTER trades the chronograph for a cleaner, more versatile design with ceramic dials, a 40mm steel case and a 60-hour power reserve.

ZENITH is taking a different approach to its celebrated El Primero legacy with the introduction of the CHRONOMASTER Solo Sport, the first three-hand model in the CHRONOMASTER collection. Rather than showcasing the chronograph complication that made El Primero famous, the new timepiece puts the spotlight on what has always defined the movement: its high-frequency precision.

Since its introduction in 1969, the El Primero has been one of watchmaking’s most significant movements, pioneering the automatic integrated high-frequency chronograph. More than five decades later, ZENITH is distilling that heritage into a simpler, everyday watch that retains the technical character of its predecessor without the complexity of a chronograph display.

A Sporty Design With Everyday Appeal
The CHRONOMASTER Solo Sport strikes a balance between sporty functionality and understated elegance. Its 40mm stainless steel case offers versatile proportions, complemented by a unidirectional rotating ceramic bezel that adds a contemporary edge.

Crown protectors frame the screw-down crown, while 20 ATM water resistance, equivalent to a rated depth of 200 metres, reinforces its practical credentials. The result is a watch designed to move comfortably between work, leisure and more active pursuits.

One of its most distinctive features is the ceramic dial, decorated with a newly developed pattern built around a repeating 45-degree Z motif. Inspired by the rhythm and vibration of the high-frequency movement beneath, the textured design gives the dial a sense of depth and movement.’

The motif extends to the seconds hand counterweight, while a sharply segmented “shark tooth” minute track draws inspiration from historical ZENITH watches. Faceted hands and hour markers coated with Super-LumiNova complete the display, ensuring legibility in low-light conditions.

El Primero Performance Without the Chronograph
At the heart of the Solo Sport is the manufacture El Primero 3620 calibre, derived from the El Primero 3600 chronograph movement.

Operating at 5 Hz, or 36,000 vibrations per hour, the automatic movement preserves the high-frequency architecture that has defined El Primero since 1969. While the chronograph counters are gone, the engineering remains distinctly ZENITH.

The movement incorporates a silicon escapement, a stop-second mechanism for precise time-setting and a bidirectional winding system featuring an openworked, star-shaped rotor. A 60-hour power reserve provides ample autonomy for everyday wear.

By removing the chronograph complication, ZENITH has created a more straightforward expression of El Primero, allowing its precision and mechanical sophistication to take centre stage.

Four Versions, Including a No-Date Option
The CHRONOMASTER Solo Sport arrives in four variations, each offering a different interpretation of the collection’s sporty character.

The white version features a sunray-finished ceramic dial with a contrasting black ceramic bezel, while the black edition pairs a polished black ceramic dial with a matching bezel for a more monochromatic appearance.

A brown version introduces warmer tones through its polished brown ceramic dial and matching bezel, offering a distinctive alternative to the more traditional black-and-white configurations.

For enthusiasts who prefer an uninterrupted dial, ZENITH also offers a black no-date version. Without the date window at 3 o’clock, it presents the cleanest expression of the Solo Sport’s three-hand design.

A New Clasp Designed for Comfort
Completing the watch is a three-link stainless steel bracelet fitted with ZENITH’s new ZENCLASP folding clasp, introduced earlier in 2026.

Developed over three years and involving approximately 1,800 hours of research and engineering, the 41-component clasp combines a safety-lock mechanism with an integrated tool-free micro-adjustment system.

Wearers can adjust the bracelet in 2.5mm increments, with up to 10mm of additional extension, making it easier to accommodate changes in wrist size throughout the day.

ZENITH has also subjected the clasp to durability testing equivalent to more than a decade of use, including over 600,000 cumulative opening and closing cycles.
