Xiaomi 17 Series Debuts: Compact Flagship, Dual-Screen Pro Models, and Smart Ecosystem Vision

In his sixth annual keynote, themed “Change,” Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun set out an ambitious path for the company’s “Human × Car × Home” smart ecosystem—and backed it up with hardware. Headlining the event at the Beijing National Convention Centre was the Xiaomi 17 series—Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max—joined by the Xiaomi Pad 8 family and a slate of new home appliances aimed at deepening the brand’s connected-life vision.

Xiaomi 17 Series
The standard Xiaomi 17 embraces compact craftsmanship without compromise. Built around a refined 6.3-inch footprint, it tips the scales at 191g and measures 8.06mm thin, with a super-elliptical corner design that sits naturally in the hand.

The front is all screen—helped by a minimalist, hole-free top design and LIPO packaging that trims bezels to 1.18mm—while a new matte glass finish and lightweight camera module keep the rear clean and comfortable. Under bright skies, the display holds its own thanks to an innovative M10 panel built with SuperRED luminous material, peaking at 3,500 nits for outdoor readability and improved efficiency.

On imaging, Leica Summilux optics take centre stage. The main camera uses a 50MP Light Fusion 950 sensor with f/1.67 aperture and OIS for confident capture across harsh lighting, while a Leica 60mm floating telephoto with f/2.0 aperture focuses as close as 10cm for intimate detail.

A new Master Portrait Mode tones skin naturally and preserves hair texture for a more lifelike look straight out of the camera.

Perhaps the most audacious spec for a small flagship is power. The Xiaomi 17 carries a 7,000mAh Xiaomi Surge Battery, the largest capacity in its class, enabled by an energy density of 894Wh/L/L.

Beyond sheer size, Xiaomi touts a longer lifecycle and better cold-weather endurance, backed by 100W wired and 50W wireless charging.

It also supports the 100W PPS universal protocol, making fast top-ups more accessible. Rounding out the daily experience are industry-leading global bands across 210+ countries/regions and USB 3.2 Gen 1 for high-speed wired transfers.

Xiaomi 17 Pro Series
If the Xiaomi 17 balances size and substance, the Xiaomi 17 Pro series pushes the envelope on interaction and endurance. Both the 6.3-inch 17 Pro and 6.9-inch 17 Pro Max introduce a Dynamic Back Display—a second screen that blends style with utility.

Users can set custom watch faces, AI-generated wallpapers (including animated portraits of pets or people), virtual pets like the new third-generation “Pangda” panda, and at-a-glance info from flights and ride-hailing to music playback.

The back display doubles as a selfie preview for main-camera shots with upgraded beauty and filters. Close the main screen and the phone flips into Handheld-Console Mode; pair the Bluetooth exclusive case and it becomes a retro game machine—notifications still surface on the back, so nothing gets missed.

Display tech gets a serious lift, too. The Pro duo uses the same M10 panel + SuperRED combo for high brightness and low power. The 17 Pro Max adds independent pixel array technology to sharpen detail versus conventional 2K panels while drawing less power, and protects it all with Xiaomi Shield Glass 3.0 for improved durability. Imaging remains Leica-led: both Pros employ Leica Summilux with an f/1.67 large aperture, 1G+6P lens stack, anti-glare coating, and a Light Fusion 950L 1/1.28-inch sensor. Crucially, Xiaomi debuts LOFIC high-dynamic technology to reach a towering 16.5EV sensor dynamic range for cinematic latitude.

Telephoto strategies diverge by model. The Xiaomi 17 Pro introduces an inverted floating telephoto capable of 20cm tele-macro, ideal for fine textures and product shots.

The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max goes long with a 5× periscope, now on a larger 1/2-inch sensor with f/2.6 aperture and hardware HDR. A redesigned light-gathering prism increases intake by 30%, helping stabilise detail and colour at distance and in mixed light.

Endurance is a headline feature across the board. Both Pro models use a high-silicon Xiaomi Surge Battery architecture with L-shaped stacking to maximise space without thickness creep—the series stays around 8mm thin. Capacities climb to 6,300mAh on 17 Pro and a hefty 7,500mAh on 17 Pro Max, each supporting 100W wired, 50W wireless, and 100W PPS fast charging.

All Xiaomi 17 models run on Snapdragon® 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform, pairing next-gen CPU/GPU power with efficiencies that bolster battery life and sustained performance.

The Pro line comes in Black, White, Purple, and Green, each with a slim profile and balanced hand feel, and all three phones carry Xiaomi’s upgraded radios and wired I/O for fast, global-ready connectivity.
