Glashütte Original introduces a fresh interpretation of its Serenade Luna with the new “Skyline Blue”, a timepiece inspired by the shifting colours and reflections of a modern city skyline.
At the heart of the new model is an expressive mother-of-pearl dial that transitions from silvery light blue to a deep smoky blue. Depending on the angle from which it is viewed, the dial takes on different shades, recalling light moving across the glass façade of a skyscraper and clouds passing overhead.
A Dial That Changes With the Light
Rather than relying on glass or metallic effects to create its distinctive appearance, Glashütte Original uses an exceptionally thin plate of natural mother-of-pearl.
Several layers of dark blue lacquer are applied to the reverse of the material, allowing the natural structure of the mother-of-pearl to interact with the colour beneath. The result is a constantly changing surface that can appear bright and silvery one moment and considerably darker the next.
The effect gives each glance at the watch a slightly different character, while reinforcing the “Skyline Blue” name with a visual connection to reflections across glass, sky and clouds.
Adding a touch of glamour is a bezel set with 48 brilliant-cut diamonds, complemented by diamond hour markers set in white gold. The sparkling details contrast with the cooler blue tones of the dial without distracting from its main visual attraction.
Moonlight at Six O’Clock
The Serenade Luna’s celestial theme continues with its moon phase display at 6 o’clock. Set against the blue dial, the complication adds a poetic element to an otherwise contemporary design.
It is a fitting feature for a watch whose appearance is shaped by the relationship between light and sky, moving naturally from the urban inspiration of its dial to the moon above it.
Yet the Serenade Luna is designed to offer more than visual appeal. Its mechanical movement provides a 60-hour power reserve, making it practical enough to be set aside for a couple of days before being worn again.
A silicon balance spring also provides resistance to magnetic fields and temperature fluctuations, bringing a distinctly modern technical element to the traditional mechanical timepiece.
