OMEGA Launches the Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite: A Timepiece Forged from the Cosmos

The OMEGA Speedmaster has long been synonymous with space exploration, earning its legendary status as the first watch worn on the Moon in 1969. Now, OMEGA deepens its celestial connection with the introduction of the Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite, a stunning new timepiece that celebrates the wonders of the night sky and the enduring legacy of the Apollo 11 mission.

The 43 mm Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite collection debuts with two distinct variations in stainless steel, each featuring a dial made from a genuine iron meteorite. This ancient material, originating from deep space, forms unique ribbon-like patterns on every watch, ensuring no two dials are alike. To further enhance its cosmic allure, OMEGA offers the meteorite dial in two finishes. The first features a black PVD-coated meteorite dial on a black base, complemented by 18K white gold hands and hour markers, along with a black ceramic bezel with a white enamel tachymeter scale.

The second option showcases a galvanic grey-coated meteorite dial on a blue base, paired with a blue ceramic bezel and a white enamel tachymeter scale. The hour markers and hands are blue PVD-coated, while the subdial hands are crafted from 18K white gold.

For the first time in Speedmaster history, the Moonphase indication at 6 o’clock features two cabochon Moons, each crafted from a genuine Moon meteorite. These celestial elements rotate in a display that mirrors the changing lunar phases as seen from both the northern and southern hemispheres. Even more impressively, the stars in the background replicate the exact night sky on July 20, 1969, the historic moment when Apollo 11 astronauts set foot on the Moon, as seen from Bienne, Switzerland, OMEGA’s watchmaking home.

The Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite is powered by OMEGA’s brand-new manual-winding Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9914, a movement that guarantees exceptional accuracy, durability, and resistance to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss. Its special finishing and precision craftsmanship are showcased through the flat sapphire crystal case back, adhering to the rigorous standards set by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS).

Beyond its mesmerizing Moonphase display, the watch offers exceptional functionality.  At 3 o’clock, a subdial houses a 60-minute and 12-hour recorder, enhancing timekeeping precision. Meanwhile, at 9 o’clock, a Small Seconds subdial incorporates a date display, accentuated by a red anodized aluminum hand. Each model is completed with a polished and brushed bracelet, featuring OMEGA’s patented comfort release adjustment system, ensuring a secure yet flexible fit for everyday wear.

The Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite stands as a true testament to OMEGA’s unparalleled expertise in watchmaking and its unbreakable bond with space exploration. Whether worn as a tribute to the past or a statement for the future, this extraordinary timepiece continues the Speedmaster’s lunar legacy, offering a tangible piece of the cosmos to collectors and enthusiasts alike.
