A. Lange & Söhne – Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar: An Emblem Of Precision And Design Innovation

The LANGE 1 PERPETUAL CALENDAR, renowned for its off-centre displays and innovative month ring, has unveiled a new platinum model with a stark black dial. This addition highlights the intricate moon-phase display further enhanced with a day/night indicator. The recent launch in April 2021 introduced a limited white-gold model with a pink-gold dial and another in pink-gold featuring a grey solid-silver dial. The current release accentuates its collection with an exquisite colour blend.

Introduced two years prior, the LANGE 1 PERPETUAL CALENDAR embodies the pinnacle of precision, design originality, and aesthetic appeal. This latest model, housed in a 950-platinum case measuring 41.9 mm across, showcases a black dial which impeccably contrasts the numerals of the date display, leap year, and other calendar indications. These indicators provide a precise reading at any moment, capable of adjusting both collectively and individually. Once set, the device remains accurate until the year 2100.

A. Lange & Söhne took on the intricate challenge of developing a perpetual calendar in 2001, aiming for optimum legibility and innovative technical resolutions. To uphold the distinct LANGE 1 design, Lange’s watchmakers innovatively crafted a peripheral month ring that moves instantaneously at each month’s end. This mechanism was first revealed in 2012, replacing the conventional 48-step cam month display.

A. Lange & Söhne’s commitment to accuracy is also evident in the day/night indicator added to the moon-phase display. Consisting of two levels, the indicator shows the moon’s synodic orbit, needing a minor adjustment only after 122.6 years. The representation vividly illustrates the moon’s movement against the changing skies.

The Calibre L021.3 reflects the unparalleled craftsmanship of the Saxon manufacturer. Visible through a sapphire-crystal case-back, this hand-finished calibre reveals its precision. Key features include a 21-carat gold unidirectional winding rotor with 950 platinum, a 50-hour power reserve, and a balance beating at 21,600 semi-oscillations hourly. Traditional Lange quality signs, such as plates and bridges made of untreated German silver, gold chatons, and a free-hand engraved balance cock, showcase the brand’s meticulous attention to detail.
