Casio has announced the launch of the MRG-B2000SG, a new and exclusive addition to its MR-G series, the flagship line of the G-SHOCK brand.
This release commemorates the 40th anniversary of G-SHOCK, paying tribute to the Shougeki-Maru: Gaikabuto helmet, a symbol of samurai strength and conviction. Limited to just 700 pieces globally, the MRG-B2000SG is a fusion of traditional samurai valour and modern watchmaking excellence.
A Nod to Samurai Heritage
The MRG-B2000SG is inspired by the mandate crest of the Shougeki-Maru: Gaikabuto helmet, featuring a tiger pattern that represents the unwavering determination of a samurai warrior. This limited-edition timepiece captures the essence of the white ito odoshi, symbolizing a samurai’s steadfast adherence to their convictions.
The MR-G series represents the apex of the G-SHOCK brand, known for its exceptional craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology. Each watch in this series is a testament to Casio’s commitment to producing the ultimate tough-driven watches.
Distinctive Design and Craftsmanship
The MRG-B2000SG embodies the bold spirit of the Shougeki-Maru: Gai helmet through its shock-resistant structure. It features a white band paired with a bezel exquisitely engraved by master metalsmith KOBAYASHI Masao. The bezel boasts a tiger design, a symbol of strength, realized in a unique rock-grain relief pattern that varies in size and shape, mirroring the distinctive tiger stripes.
The watch’s band is crafted from fluor rubber, combining flexibility, durability, and stain resistance, reminiscent of the white ito Odoshi of the samurai helmet. The case is made of titanium, ion-plated in dark silver, and undergoes a deep-layer hardening process to enhance its hardness and reveal a crystalline pattern, echoing the colour and texture of the Kabuto helmet.
Special Commemorative Features
Special touches befitting this commemorative edition include a metal plate celebrating the G-SHOCK 40th anniversary on the side of the case and screw heads adorned with rubies, symbolizing passion and success. These elements add an extra layer of exclusivity and significance to this already special timepiece.
The MRG-B2000SG watch is priced at SGD 8,889 and will be made available online, as well as all G-SHOCK Stores from 27 November 2023, limited to 700 pieces worldwide.
