Grand Seiko Captures the Beauty of Dawn with Singapore-Exclusive SBGA525

Grand Seiko has partnered with Watches of Switzerland to unveil the SBGA525 “Sea of Clouds in Gold”, an exclusive Spring Drive timepiece inspired by one of nature’s most breathtaking moments—the golden sunrise emerging above a sea of clouds. Limited to just 30 individually numbered pieces, the special edition will be available exclusively at the Grand Seiko Salon – Watches of Switzerland Jewel Changi in Singapore.

The latest creation continues Grand Seiko’s long-standing philosophy of “The Nature of Time,” drawing inspiration from fleeting natural scenes that mark the passage of time. The SBGA525 recreates the magical transition between darkness and daylight, where warm golden sunlight breaks across a sea of clouds while cool blue shadows slowly fade into the morning sky.

A Dial Inspired by Sunrise Above the Clouds
The highlight of the SBGA525 is its beautifully textured dial, finished in a soft golden hue that reflects the first rays of the rising sun. The intricate pattern subtly shifts under different lighting conditions, creating the impression of clouds glowing as dawn gradually unfolds.

Adding contrast are Grand Seiko’s signature blue accents. The tempered blue seconds hand glides effortlessly across the dial thanks to the Spring Drive movement, while the matching blue power reserve indicator and Grand Seiko logo echo the cooler tones hidden beneath the illuminated cloudscape. Together, the colours create a harmonious balance that captures the fleeting beauty of daybreak.

The Timeless Appeal of the 62GS Case
The SBGA525 is housed in a modern interpretation of the iconic 62GS, Grand Seiko’s first automatic mechanical watch introduced in 1967.

Its distinctive bezel-free construction allows the sapphire crystal to sit directly on the case, creating cleaner lines while allowing more light to enter the dial from different angles. The design enhances the depth, texture and colour of the dial, bringing the sunrise-inspired finish vividly to life. Contemporary refinements also improve comfort and wearability while preserving the elegant proportions that have made the 62GS one of Grand Seiko’s most recognisable case designs.

Powered by Grand Seiko’s Spring Drive
Inside the watch beats the Spring Drive Calibre 9R65, combining the mechanical energy of a traditional mainspring with electronic regulation for exceptional precision. The movement delivers an accuracy of ±15 seconds per month and offers an impressive 72-hour power reserve when fully wound.

Visible through the sapphire crystal case back, the movement is assembled by skilled artisans at the Shinshu Watch Studio. The case back also features a bespoke Watches of Switzerland engraving, while each of the 30 pieces carries its own individual edition number, reinforcing its exclusivity.
