iFi Audio has unveiled the iDSD GR 2, the next-generation portable DAC/headphone amplifier that builds upon the acclaimed xDSD Gryphon. Redesigned from the ground up, the new flagship combines a completely revamped DAC architecture, more powerful balanced amplification, an intuitive touchscreen interface and premium wireless connectivity, positioning itself as iFi’s most advanced portable DAC/amp to date.
A New Generation of Portable Hi-Fi
Designed for audiophiles who refuse to compromise on sound quality away from their desktop setup, the iDSD GR 2 introduces a host of hardware upgrades aimed at delivering a richer and more natural listening experience.
At its heart is the Burr-Brown PCM1795 DAC, making its debut in an iFi product. The new chipset supports true 32-bit resolution while preserving the warm analogue sound signature the brand is known for.
Coupled with a redesigned fully balanced signal path and bespoke Class A output stage, the new architecture delivers lower distortion, greater transparency and improved dynamic range.
More Power for Demanding Headphones
The iDSD GR 2 significantly raises the bar in driving capability, delivering up to 1,513mW RMS into 32 ohms—around 50% more output than the previous xDSD Gryphon.
The additional power gives the GR 2 ample headroom for high-impedance and power-hungry headphones, providing tighter bass, improved transient response and greater dynamic expression without sacrificing control.
Touchscreen Simplicity Meets Premium Audio
Replacing traditional menu navigation is a new colour OLED capacitive touchscreen, allowing users to access settings quickly through a more intuitive interface.
Beyond usability, iFi has also partnered with JVCKENWOOD to integrate K2HD Technology, which restores harmonic richness and musicality often lost during digital recording and compression. Users can also fine-tune their listening experience using four selectable digital filters, tailoring the sound to suit different genres and personal preferences.
Lossless Wireless Listening
Wireless performance receives a major upgrade with Bluetooth 5.4, supporting both aptX Lossless and LDAC codecs.
The inclusion of aptX Lossless enables CD-quality wireless playback, while LDAC offers transmission rates of up to 990kbps, giving listeners greater flexibility without sacrificing audio quality.
Alongside Bluetooth, the GR 2 also supports USB, S/PDIF and line connections, making it equally at home in desktop or portable listening setups.
Smarter Battery Management
A new Hybrid Power Mode intelligently balances external power and battery usage. When plugged into an external source, the unit prioritises mains power and only draws from the internal battery when additional power is required, helping extend long-term battery lifespan during extended listening sessions.
The GR 2 also integrates with the iFi Nexis app, allowing users to adjust advanced settings, receive over-the-air firmware updates and unlock future enhancements without needing to connect the device to a computer.
