Samsung has unveiled a fresh addition to its SSD 990 PRO series, introducing a new 4-terabyte (TB) model. This series, known for its high-performance PCIe 4.0 SSDs, harnesses Samsung’s eighth-generation V-NAND (V8) technology and enhanced proprietary controller.
The 990 PRO series, designed for demanding tasks involving extensive data volumes like 3D/4K graphics work, data analytics, and high-quality gaming, delivers exceptional speed and superior power efficiency. It is tailored to meet the storage needs of today’s PCs, laptops, gaming consoles, and computing systems. With improved total bytes written (TBW) ratings of up to 2,400TB, the 990 PRO series ensures increased SSD reliability and longevity, making it ideal for users with highly intensive workloads and substantial storage requirements.
Key Features of the 4TB 990 PRO SSD:
Outstanding Performance and Capacity: The 4TB 990 PRO, featuring Samsung’s V8 technology and an enhanced controller, offers near-maximum performance in a PCIe 4.0 interface. It boasts impressive sequential read speeds of up to 7,450 megabytes-per-second (MB/s) and writes speeds of up to 6,900MB/s. The expanded 4TB capacity delivers enhanced random read and write speeds of up to 1,600K and 1,550K IOPS, making it an ideal choice for gamers, creative professionals, and tech enthusiasts seeking top-tier performance and ample storage space.
Reduced Lag and Enhanced Gaming: With the fastest random read performance among PCIe 4.0 interface consumer SSDs on the market, the 4TB 990 PRO significantly reduces mid-game stalls and accelerates the loading of high-quality videos. This contributes to an improved gaming experience with reduced lag, allowing users to enjoy real-time gameplay with consistently high frames per second (FPS).
Enhanced Power Efficiency and Reliable Thermal Control: The 990 PRO series achieves remarkable power efficiency, delivering up to a 50% performance improvement compared to the previous 980 PRO series. It features a nickel coating on the controller and incorporates a heat spreader label on the SSD’s backside, ensuring optimal temperature control and minimal performance fluctuations over time.
The 990 PRO with Heatsink comes equipped with an effective, slim heatsink, providing sustained high-performance computing and gaming capabilities. Additionally, it is compatible with the latest game consoles, offering faster game installation and loading times while preventing performance drops due to overheating. Thanks to Samsung’s V8 1Tb high-density NAND and memory stacking technology, the 4TB 990 PRO is designed with a single-sided M.2 form factor, making it slimmer than double-sided M.2 SSDs. This design eliminates concerns associated with double-sided M.2 SSDs in ultra-thin laptops, such as installation difficulties or the risk of damaging other components. The streamlined, single-sided M.2 form factor provides ample storage capacity and sustained performance.
Samsung Magician Software and Availability: Samsung offers the Magician software, ensuring optimal SSD performance by keeping firmware, drivers, and settings up to date. Users can customize power and performance optimization according to their preferences. The software also supports RGB functionality for the 990 PRO with Heatsink, allowing gamers to personalize colours and LED effects. The new version of Magician 8.0, set for release in September 2023, will serve as an integrated software solution for SSDs, portable SSDs, memory cards, and USB flash drives.
The 4TB 990 PRO series will be available on the Samsung Online Store, Lazada and Shopee, as well as major consumer electronics and IT retailers from 2 October 2023. T
