Apple Introduces MacBook Pro with All-New M5 Pro and M5 Max, Delivering Breakthrough Pro Performance and Next-Level On-Device AI

Apple has unveiled the latest 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro powered by the all-new M5 Pro and M5 Max, bringing game-changing performance and next-level on-device AI capabilities to professionals. Designed for developers, researchers, creatives and business users, the new MacBook Pro combines the world’s fastest CPU core with a next-generation GPU featuring a Neural Accelerator in each core, delivering up to four times the AI performance of the previous generation and up to eight times the AI performance of M1 models.

With faster unified memory bandwidth, up to 2x faster SSD speeds, and increased starting storage, the new MacBook Pro cements its position as the ultimate powerhouse for pro workflows. Available in space black and silver, it will be available for pre-order starting March 4, with availability beginning March 11.

Blazing Performance with M5 Pro and M5 Max
Built on Apple’s new Fusion Architecture, M5 Pro and M5 Max are engineered from the ground up for AI and advanced pro workloads. The architecture connects two dies into a single system on a chip, integrating a powerful CPU, scalable next-generation GPU, Neural Engine, Media Engine and Thunderbolt 5 capabilities for dramatic performance gains.

Both chips feature a new up-to-18-core CPU with six super cores — the world’s fastest CPU core — alongside 12 all-new performance cores optimised for multithreaded pro workflows. Together, they deliver up to 30 per cent faster performance compared to the previous generation. M5 Pro is ideal for users handling complex tasks such as code optimisation or large-scale photo processing, while M5 Max is built for professionals pushing the limits with intensive simulations and advanced AI development.

The next-generation GPU architecture includes a Neural Accelerator in every core, enabling up to 4x faster large language model (LLM) prompt processing than M4 Pro and M4 Max, and up to 8x faster AI image generation compared to M1 Pro and M1 Max. Graphics performance also sees up to a 50 per cent increase over the previous generation, empowering motion designers, VFX artists and 3D creators to work with intricate scenes in real time.

Unified memory bandwidth plays a key role in these gains. M5 Pro supports up to 64GB of unified memory with up to 307GB/s of bandwidth, while M5 Max supports up to 128GB with up to 614GB/s. This enables seamless AI model training, massive video projects and complex data processing directly on the device.

Performance benchmarks highlight the leap forward. MacBook Pro with M5 Pro delivers up to 7.8x faster AI image generation than M1 Pro models and up to 6.9x faster LLM prompt processing. It also achieves up to 5.2x faster 3D rendering in Maxon Redshift compared to M1 Pro.

Meanwhile, MacBook Pro with M5 Max delivers up to 8x faster AI image generation than M1 Max, up to 6.7x faster LLM prompt processing, and significantly faster video effects rendering in Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve Studio.

Faster Storage and Increased Starting Capacity
The new MacBook Pro introduces up to 2x faster SSD performance, reaching speeds of up to 14.5GB/s. This dramatically accelerates workflows involving 4K and 8K video editing, AI model development and large datasets.

Storage has also been upgraded. MacBook Pro with M5 Pro now starts with 1TB of storage, while M5 Max configurations start at 2TB. Even the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 now comes standard with 1TB, offering more headroom for professional projects right out of the box.

Exceptional Battery Life and Pro Features
Despite the massive performance gains, MacBook Pro delivers up to 24 hours of battery life — giving Intel-based upgraders up to 13 additional hours on a single charge. The laptop maintains consistent performance whether plugged in or running on battery, and can fast-charge up to 5 per cent in just 30 minutes with a 96W or higher USB-C power adapter.

The stunning Liquid Retina XDR display remains the best in a pro laptop, offering up to 1600 nits of peak HDR brightness and up to 1000 nits for SDR content, with an optional nano-texture finish. Connectivity is equally robust, with three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI supporting up to 8K resolution, an SDXC card slot and MagSafe 3. Users can connect up to two high-resolution external displays with M5 Pro and up to four with M5 Max.

Wireless performance is enhanced with Apple’s N1 chip, enabling Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 for improved reliability and speed. A 12MP Centre Stage camera with Desk View, studio-quality microphones and a six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio round out a premium pro experience.

Powered by macOS Tahoe and Apple Intelligence
macOS Tahoe enhances the MacBook Pro experience with powerful productivity features and deeper integration of Apple Intelligence. Spotlight receives major updates for faster search and actions, while intelligent Shortcuts can tap directly into Apple Intelligence models. Live Translation across Messages, FaceTime and the Phone app enables seamless multilingual communication.

Developers can integrate Apple Intelligence into their apps through the Foundation Models framework, unlocking specialised on-device AI capabilities. Continuity features, including the Phone app on Mac and Live Activities from iPhone, further extend the ecosystem experience. A refreshed design featuring Liquid Glass and expanded personalisation options adds visual polish to the pro workflow.

Designed with the Environment in Mind
The new MacBook Pro is built with sustainability at its core, featuring 45 per cent recycled content, including 100 per cent recycled aluminium in the enclosure and 10 per cent recycled cobalt in the battery.

It is manufactured using 50 per cent renewable electricity across the supply chain and packaged in 100 per cent fibre-based, recyclable materials. The device is designed for durability, repairability and long-term software support, aligning with Apple’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality across its entire footprint by 2030.
