Kollokium Unveils Projekt 01 Variant G: A New Chapter “Back in Blue”

Kollokium returns to the spotlight with the introduction of Projekt 01 Variant G, marking the sixth evolution of its boldly experimental neubrutalist wrist-machine. Limited to 499 pieces, Variant G arrives two years after the original Projekt 01 disrupted the independent watch scene with a design language pulled from brutalist architecture, science fiction, and industrial rawness.

This time, Kollokium embraces a more refined chromatic direction, presenting an unmistakably blue watch—yet far from conventional. The brand has long resisted the obvious, but Variant G proves that blue can be reinterpreted through texture, contrast, and mood while staying faithful to the brand’s avant-garde roots.

A Dial Built from Light, Texture, and 468 Pins
At the heart of Variant G is a completely new dial execution rendered in a matte cornflower blue, infused with blue-emission Super-LumiNova. This base surface becomes the stage for one of Projekt 01’s most defining features: 468 steel pins, each individually applied by hand in six different diameters and heights.

Their hollowed tips are filled with luminous blue paint, creating the illusion of glowing pixels rising from the dial. These pins are finished with a deep navy blue PVD coating, offering a subtle metallic sheen that shifts as light moves across the surface.

While the original Projekt 01 leaned heavily into dystopian, techno-industrial aesthetics, Variant G softens the mood—less sci-fi uniform, more modern tailoring—yet remains unmistakably Kollokium.

Two Handsets, Two Personalities
For this edition, Kollokium multiplies the creative tension by offering two handset options, reflecting the founders’ inability to choose between legibility and visual cohesion. The G1 configuration features blue-PVD hour and minute hands with luminous centres, paired with a crisp white seconds hand.

The G2 configuration embraces a more monochromatic aesthetic with white hour and minute hands edged in blue PVD, alongside a tonal blue seconds hand. Both interpretations highlight different facets of the dial, allowing collectors to select the expression that best suits their taste.

Projekt 01 Variant G2

The case of Projekt 01 remains one of the most unconventional constructions in modern watchmaking. Forged from die-cast 316L stainless steel, it bypasses the CNC machining processes used almost universally across the industry. The result is a surface texture that is neither brushed nor sandblasted—something in between, a lightly rugged finish that feels surprisingly soft to the touch.

The structure consists of a barrel-shaped caseback with cruciform-inspired lugs, topped by a cylindrical mid-case that houses the movement in a steel container. Cast directly into the left side is the project’s dossier name, K, P–n°01, while a triangular valve-style crown completes the industrial architecture of the watch.

A Movement Chosen for Honesty and Function
In keeping with its philosophy (“Kollokium ≠ watchmaker”), the brand equips Variant G with the reliable La Joux-Perret G101 automatic movement. Offering a 68-hour power reserve, 4 Hz frequency, and 24 jewels, the movement is left completely unbranded and undecorated—a deliberate decision underscoring Kollokium’s respect for functional mechanics without unnecessary storytelling. Housed beneath a solid caseback, the calibre is a quiet, dependable engine chosen for performance rather than prestige.

A Strap Designed for Everyday Utility
Completing the package is a navy elastic textile strap engineered for real-world practicality. Quick-drying, breathable, and slightly elastic, it secures with a die-cast steel hook buckle and incorporates stitched adjustment loops for easy on-the-go sizing.

The strap mirrors the industrial ethos of the Projekt line, enhancing comfort while maintaining the watch’s distinctive utilitarian aesthetic.
