Garmin is expanding its flagship multisport smartwatch family with the new fēnix 9 and fēnix 9 Pro, bringing a host of upgrades aimed at athletes and adventurers who want more from their wrist.
Both models introduce enhanced training and navigation features, more storage and the new Garmin Epic feature for turning multiple recorded activities into a single shareable story.
The fēnix 9 Pro takes things further with a redesigned titanium construction, brighter display options and, on select models, satellite and LTE connectivity for staying connected without a phone.
Fēnix 9 Gets Brighter and Smarter
Available in 43mm, 47mm and 51mm sizes, the fēnix 9 features an AMOLED display that Garmin says is twice as bright as its predecessor. It is paired with a scratch-resistant sapphire lens, leakproof buttons and a design that is dive-rated to 40 metres.
One of the more interesting additions is Garmin Epic. Rather than viewing every recorded workout or adventure separately, users can combine activities spanning several days, weeks or even months into a single “Epic” within Garmin Connect.
A multi-day backpacking trip or cycling tour, for example, can be brought together with the corresponding health and performance data, photos and individual activities before being shared with friends and family.
Better Insights Into Your Endurance
Garmin is also expanding the fēnix’s training capabilities with new stamina zones and a stamina curve.
These tools are designed to show how an athlete’s endurance changes over time based on training history and improvements in fitness.
Besides tracking long-term progress, the information can help users better understand how to pace themselves during an activity.
Indoor rowing receives additional attention too, with metrics including VO2 Max and power curve, while expanded rucking functionality lets users adjust their pack weight during an activity, follow GORUCK workouts from the watch and set targets such as calories burned with pack weights of up to 100kg.
Faster Maps and Twice the Storage
Navigation has long been a major part of the fēnix proposition, and Garmin has upgraded the hardware behind it for this generation.
The fēnix 9 has 50% more RAM than the fēnix 8 and an updated map engine, which Garmin says makes map panning up to 30% faster.
A new perspective view also presents more detail both nearby and farther along a route, helping users anticipate what lies ahead.
Storage has increased to 64GB, providing room for twice as many downloaded maps compared with the fēnix 8, along with as many as 7,000 songs.
Fēnix 9 Pro Introduces a Titanium Case
The fēnix 9 Pro includes the premium features of the standard model but introduces some significant hardware changes of its own.
Most notably, it becomes the first fēnix smartwatch with a titanium watch case. Garmin uses nano-moulding technology to combine metal and plastic at the molecular level, with the new construction designed to provide strength while reducing overall thickness and weight.
The AMOLED versions can reach 3,000 nits of brightness, helping maps and workout information remain visible under bright sunlight.
The largest 51mm version also introduces Garmin’s first 1.5-inch AMOLED display. Despite being 15% larger than the display on the fēnix 8, Garmin has managed to fit it into the same case size.
Select Pro models will also be available with solar-charging displays, while the integrated LED flashlight gains a green-light mode designed to help preserve night vision.
Leave the Phone Behind
Perhaps the biggest distinction between the standard and Pro models is connectivity.
Select fēnix 9 Pro watches feature inReach satellite and LTE connectivity, allowing users to call, send messages and access SOS functionality directly from their wrist with an appropriate active plan.
For 2026, Garmin is making inReach connectivity available across all three fēnix 9 Pro sizes — 43mm, 47mm and 51mm.
LiveTrack notifications can be sent through LTE using the Garmin Messenger app, letting selected contacts know when an activity begins and allowing them to follow the user’s progress.
The new Garmin Locate feature can also let loved ones view the wearer’s location through Garmin Messenger when an LTE connection is available. Weather forecasts for a specified location can now be delivered through satellite as well as LTE.
In an emergency, SOS functionality can connect users with the 24/7 staffed Garmin Response coordination centre, providing another layer of reassurance for those heading into more remote environments.
Battery Life
Despite the brighter displays and expanding feature set, battery life remains one of the major attractions of the fēnix family.
Garmin says the largest fēnix 9 can achieve up to 29 days of battery life in smartwatch mode. The fēnix 9 Pro with the largest AMOLED display increases that to as much as 31 days, while selected solar-charging models can reach up to 57 days.
New ComfortFit accessory bands are also being introduced for both watches. Their split-weave fabric construction combines stretch, softness, durability and moisture resistance with Garmin’s QuickFit system for easier swapping and adjustment.
Pricing and Availability
The Garmin fēnix 9 will be available in Singapore from 17 September 2026, with prices starting at S$1,349. It will be sold through Garmin Brand Stores, Takashimaya and selected authorised retailers.
The fēnix 9 Pro will start at S$1,489 and will arrive at a later date, while the fēnix 9 Pro models equipped with inReach connectivity are also scheduled for a later release.
