Brompton celebrates 1 millionth hand-built bike milestone in Singapore

In a historic moment for Brompton, the renowned hand-built folding bike manufacturer, the one-millionth iconic folding bike has rolled off its factory floor in Greenford, London, and is now making its way around the world on a year-long tour. Singapore holds a significant spot on this global journey, where the unique bike will be showcased in the Funan Mall Atrium Space from 19 to 23 July 2023. On the 23rd of July, it will take a spin along Singapore’s scenic bay area.

Frame #1,000,000

Having originated in 1975, Brompton has achieved great success, selling over 90,000 bikes annually across 47 countries. Each bike is meticulously crafted by hand in the United Kingdom, exemplifying 47 years of skilled craftsmanship. The One Millionth Brompton Bike proudly wears the company’s heritage on its sleeve. Custom-built to commemorate this momentous occasion, the bike features a special design inspired by one of Brompton’s original models, the ‘Mark One’. It sports a red main frame, silver parts, a one-of-a-kind million decal, an ID plate, and aluminium touchpoints. To pay homage to the brand’s roots, a Brooks C17 saddle, reminiscent of the seat of choice from 1975, is also installed. The finishing touch comes in the form of the signatures of both Brompton’s founder and inventor, Andrew Ritchie, and current CEO, Will Butler-Adams, adding a personalized element to this exceptional bike.

Celebrating the Milestone with the Community

Will Butler-Adams, CEO at Brompton Bicycle, expressed the significance of this milestone: “This is a magic moment in Brompton’s history, and we want to celebrate it with the people that made it happen. Since the first bike in 1975, a Brompton has always been built to be ridden, and the millionth is no different. Instead of putting it on display somewhere, we want it flying down the Mall in London, across Marina Bay in Singapore, along the Seine in Paris, exploring and moving through cities as it’s always meant to.”

Global Tour and Mass Ride in Singapore

From its London production, the One Millionth Brompton bike embarks on an international tour, visiting 18 different countries over 12 months. The tour aims to allow the global community to experience the joy of riding this iconic bike. In Singapore, the tour concludes with a mass ride for Brompton owners on July 23 at 0900hrs. Supported by a strong and proud community in Singapore, the ride will create a spectacular sea of Brompton bikes cruising through Marina Bay.

The event is part of Brompton’s ‘All Together Different’ campaign, celebrating the various ways Brompton integrates into people’s lives, the strong community that uses the bike, and the collective belief in a greener, more connected, and more active future powered by bikes.
