Hi guys! Before the school semester starts, I want to share with you what I have been doing over the holidays. This is probably the most exciting thing that happened to me during the break; I got to try out the new PlayStation 5!
As an avid gamer myself, I have been gaming on my PC so it was my first time gaming on a bigger screen, the television. I will be sharing my experience, as well as selected 3 games that I find fun to share with you guys.
At the first look of the PS5, what appealed to me was its sleek white design. I loved the colour, not only because white is my favourite colour, but also because it can easily match my furniture and will not stick out like an eyesore. The rectangular chassis of the console is chunkier than what I was used to. For those with a smaller or limited space available, they may need to reorganise their entertainment area to allow it to fit.
Given that it can be placed horizontally or vertically, it allows us to play with the space. The curves of the console give it a beautiful futuristic aesthetic. Connection to my TV was extremely fast and seamless, I just had to connect the HDMI between the console and the TV. For added speed in connectivity, I attached the LAN cable into the console too. The set-up was quick and intuitive, and its interface is clean and modern.
The first game that I tried out was Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. It was a game that I have been anticipating for a long time ever since I saw the gameplay video a few months ago. The DualSense controller also played a big part in enhancing my experience with the PS5. While playing the game, I felt subtle vibrations and tactile feedback, depending on the scene. This really elevated my ‘4D’ experience with the game and made me enjoy the game a lot more. The graphics of the game are also revolutionary, with extremely smooth frames and high pixels. This is given, with its powerful 8-core AMD Zen 2 processor and 10.3 teraflops of graphic power.
The DualSense controller also comes with a speaker and microphone, where throughout the game I could hear the soft buzzes of electricity. I have not tried this function out, but apparently the microphone works well, and you can chat with your friends during games. I recommend this game and it brings back my childhood memories.
The next game I played was Ghost of Tsushima. It features an open world, where we follow Jin Sakai, a samurai on a quest to protect Tsushima Island during the first Mongol invasion of Japan. During the game, the DualSense controller also had slight vibrations and the sound of wind, depending on the scene. It is a complex samurai game with deep stories for gamers to uncover. It was fun as it was not all just fighting, it was also about forging friendships and finding clues.
The game was graphically intensive, the small details such as the wind, sunlight and landscapes were beautifully vibrant. Trust me, you would want to take a snapshot of every frame of the game. Personally, I feel the game focuses a lot more on character development and the story compared to brutal killings, but overall it was a fresh experience.
Finally, I tried out Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate. This game has been around for a long time, and it may relive some childhood memories. It showcases gory fatalities and fatal blows that we have never seen before. It was my first time playing this, so I was not familiar with the characters, but the game was exhilarating, nonetheless. The graphics were top-notch and looked good in all their campaigns. It gave me one of the best experiences for a fighting game. It was a pity I only had one controller; I would definitely enjoy it more if I could fight my friends with another controller!
In addition to games, the PS5 has access to almost every entertainment application you’ll need, including Disney Plus, Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video and Apple TV Plus. With its massive internal fan and large vents along the inside of the chassis, the PS5 stayed cool and mostly quiet even after intensive hours of playing.
The PS5 has made my gaming experience so much more exciting and I can’t wait to get back to playing it again! The PS5 is currently available for pre-order on the official at S$729.
