Review: LG Libero

Innovative Laptop Extension
Hang it or desk it, the LG Libero is a versatile and good-looking monitor

Many times when manufacturers come up with an innovative design, they price it at a massive premium. But LG has proven time and again that they have innovative blood in consumers’ hearts. The last LG monitor NXT reviewed is the DualUp Ergo monitor which is almost square and supports dual inputs where users can connect two separate computers to one monitor. You can own it for about the same price as two separate monitors.

Computer monitors take up precious desk space because as the screen sizes grow larger, so is the need for an equally heavy stand to hold, so moving them around is cumbersome. The LG Libero’s unique metal stand supports the narrow body frame and takes up little space. It weighs just 6kg, not heavy for a 27-inches. The white plastic rear has a fabric-like pattern to make it look more premium, and the sleek profile makes it easy to move around the house or at the office. The package includes additional brackets to hang the monitor on the partition wall, which makes the Libero very versatile in an office environment.

Even though the height is not adjustable, the Libero is large enough to reach eye level. LG has included a detachable full-HD webcam with a privacy cover in the package which you can attach either to the top or bottom of the monitor, depending on whether you are using it on the desk or hanging it. Another convenient fact is that the USB-C cable also supplies up to 65W power for your laptop, and you can also connect your headset to the Libero for teleconferencing. Four peripherals – headset, webcam, stereo speakers, power supply – go through a single USB-C cable to your laptop and avert cable mess. What would have made the Libero perfect is to include more USB ports to turn it into a hub.

With four straight buttons located at the side to operate the on-screen display, it is a bit of a challenge to click the right ones to navigate. There are plenty of options to tune the display if you are not satisfied with the presets. For instance, a Reader Mode, as well as Flicker Safe, can reduce eye fatigue and strain. For managing multi-window productivity, you can install the LG Switch app which comes with numerous split layout windows and supports hotkey.

After testing it for over 2 weeks, the Libero is a welcoming installation even in a home environment. It keeps my desk clean with just a single USB-C cable connected from the laptop to the Libero.

Rating: 4.5/5
