Hiking up the White Cliffs of Dover with the Canon EOS M200

My first thought when I heard the name Dover was of the mrt station back in Singapore. I bet some of you are the same! However, Dover in the UK has a completely different vibe and outlook. Located southeast along the coast, Dover is known as a major ferry port in the county of Kent. My friend who convinced me to go termed it as an underrated coastal town for a day trip. Despite the warnings of Storm Dennis, we made our way via train to Dover. Our main goal for this trip was to conquer and overcome firstly the storm, then the White Cliffs.

While hiking, there was no doubt we’ll be greeted with scenic views from all around. That was why I decided to bring the Canon EOS M200 along. After my previous journey around and about Guildford, I knew that I was going to be reliant on the “Landscape” function of the camera.

Landscape Function

If you haven’t heard of this function, it can be accessed via camera modes and is used to assist beginners like me to take gorgeous scenic views. I have included some pictures here which were edited after exporting the photos from the camera.

Portrait Function

To celebrate the fact that we managed to hike/walk to the White Cliffs, we took some portrait shots using the Canon EOS M200. To set the context,  we were met with winds going up to 66km/hr while we were taking the photos. If you can’t picture that, just imagine not being even able to walk straight steadily due to the wind’s brutal force.

With that being said, our photos didn’t turn out blur or weirdly framed due to our inability to hold the camera steadily. We also took the photos in such a short span of time because 1.We were close to the edge and feared falling off, and 2.The wind made it difficult to have a long time for photo-taking. The camera also made us look way better than we felt which is a plus as it was also raining at that point of time.

Here are some portrait photos of me being too scared to even stand up:
