No need for bulky laser printers – the Canon PIXMA E3170 is all I need to print my articles and sample pictures. Here are some of the perks that this simple printer has.
A Simple Printer that does its Job
In my internship at NXT, I occasionally print out sample pictures and online articles I have written to keep as an archive, and, of course, use them for university applications. The printer can scan, print and photocopy. However, I usually only use the print function and I don’t need top notch quality printouts. The print resolution isn’t too shabby though, at 4800 x 600 Dots Per Inch (DPI).
The speed of printing did not really bother me as most of the time I would be multi-tasking and the freshly printed papers would sit in the printer for a few minutes before I attended to it. I looked up its speed and turns out it has a decent 7 Impressions Per Minute (IPM) for A4 monochrome print, although it takes a little longer at 65 seconds for borderless photo printing. A few seconds doesn’t really make much of a difference when most of us don’t wait idly by the printer.
Ink Efficiency is the Priority
The printer is also called the Canon PIXMA Ink Efficient E3170, and it’s clever because the prices of ink cartridges are constantly rising! This printer only requires two cartridges, unlike higher end models that require six. I wanted my cartridge to have a higher yield so I don’t have to replace it too many times, so I got the CL–57 tri-colour cartridge which is only $6 more than the lower-yield colour cartridge.
Because of the awesome ink efficiency, this printer beats the TS8170 mentioned in the previous article in terms of Recommended Monthly Print Volume. The E3170 can print 50 to 200 pages with one cartridge – much more than the 30 to 100 pages that you get with the TS8170. The TS8170 is much faster and can print at a slightly higher resolution, but it is double the price. At only S$149, the E3170 satisfies my basic needs and helps me save even more money with its ink efficiency.
