Synology Launches PAS7700, Its Most Powerful Enterprise Storage System Yet

Synology PAS7700 delivers ultra-high performance, active-active availability and sub-millisecond latency for mission-critical workloads.

Synology has announced the global availability of the PAS7700, its first active-active all-flash NVMe storage system designed to meet the growing demands of modern enterprise workloads. Built for mission-critical environments, the new platform combines ultra-high performance, continuous availability and advanced data protection to support organisations navigating increasingly data-intensive operations.

As technologies such as artificial intelligence, data analytics and virtualisation continue to transform enterprise IT infrastructure, storage systems have evolved beyond simple data repositories. Businesses today require storage platforms capable of delivering rapid access to data, uninterrupted service availability and long-term operational reliability. Synology says the PAS7700 was developed to address these evolving requirements while helping organisations optimise the total cost of ownership.

At the heart of the PAS7700 is a dual-controller architecture housed within a compact 4U chassis featuring 48 NVMe SSD bays. The system can scale up to 1.65PB of raw storage capacity through seven expansion units, making it suitable for organisations with rapidly growing storage needs. Supporting both file and block storage, the platform offers broad compatibility with enterprise protocols including NVMe-over-Fabrics (NVMe-oF), iSCSI, Fibre Channel, SMB and NFS.

Performance is one of the PAS7700’s key strengths. Equipped with up to 2,048GB of memory and 100GbE networking, the system delivers up to two million IOPS, sub-millisecond latency and sequential throughput of up to 30GB/s. These specifications make it well-suited for performance-intensive workloads such as virtualisation, large databases, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), electronic design automation (EDA) and AI applications.

The PAS7700 is also targeted at industries where large-scale data processing and uninterrupted operations are critical. Data centres, manufacturing facilities, semiconductor design firms, game development studios and healthcare organisations are among the sectors expected to benefit from the platform’s ability to sustain consistent performance while processing massive volumes of concurrent workloads.

A standout feature of the PAS7700 is its active-active architecture, which allows both controllers to operate simultaneously. Unlike traditional active-standby systems, this design ensures that services remain available even if one controller or network component experiences a failure, significantly reducing the risk of downtime. To further strengthen resilience, Synology has incorporated multiple layers of protection, including triple-parity RAID, mirrored write cache protection, IP failover and automatic failover mechanisms.

To simplify system management, the PAS7700 includes Continuous Availability Manager, a monitoring tool that provides IT administrators with visual insights into the health of system components. This enables teams to proactively identify and address potential issues before they impact business operations.

Security and data protection are equally important areas of focus. The PAS7700 supports Self-Encrypting Drives (SEDs) for hardware-level encryption without affecting performance. It also includes support for WORM (Write Once Read Many) folders and immutable snapshots, helping protect data from unauthorised modification or deletion. These features are particularly valuable in industries facing stringent compliance and cybersecurity requirements.

For disaster recovery and business continuity, the system supports Snapshot Replication and Hyper Backup, allowing enterprises to establish multiple layers of backup and recovery between production environments and secondary systems. These capabilities enhance cyber resilience and improve recovery options in the event of hardware failures, ransomware attacks or other incidents.

The Synology PAS7700 is now available globally through Synology’s network of distributors and partners.
