Leica M EV1: A New Era for the Iconic M-System with Built-in Electronic Viewfinder

Leica Camera AG marks a historic evolution of its legendary M-System with the debut of the Leica M EV1, the first M-Camera to feature an integrated electronic viewfinder (EVF). This groundbreaking addition combines the precision and tradition of the classic Leica rangefinder with the modern advantages of digital visualisation.

Crystal-Clear OLED Viewfinder

Designed to make M photography more accessible and versatile, the M EV1 allows photographers to achieve precise focus regardless of visual acuity. Best in cases when using fast lenses like the Summilux and Noctilux series at wide apertures, or when composing ultra-wide-angle, telephoto, and macro shots.

For over a century, Leica has been synonymous with photographic innovation. Since revolutionising the industry in 1925 with the first production 35mm camera, the company has continuously refined the M lineage, blending craftsmanship, iconic design, and technological advancement.

Following the digital transition with the M8 in 2006, Leica continued to expand the M family with distinctive models such as the M11 Monochrom, M11-D, M11-P, and the timeless analogue M6, MP, and M-A. Now, with the M EV1, Leica answers a long-standing demand from photographers for a built-in EVF, enhancing usability for both veteran and first-time M users.

The Leica M EV1’s 5.76-megapixel high-resolution EVF delivers crisp clarity, vivid colour reproduction, and an exact preview of the final image. It provides real-time exposure simulation and supports dioptre adjustments from -4 to +2 for personalised comfort.

The intuitive focus assist system, including focus peaking, focus zoom, and customizable magnification, ensures precise manual focusing even in challenging scenarios. The signature M lever now gains new functionality, allowing quick toggling between focus assist modes and digital zoom levels (1.3× or 1.8×).

Retaining the timeless aesthetics and craftsmanship of the M-Series, the M EV1 is handmade in Germany with premium materials, featuring a refined diamond-pattern leatherette and a minimalist front design that distinguishes it from traditional rangefinder models.

Under the hood, it inherits the full-frame BSI-CMOS sensor with Triple Resolution Technology from the Leica M11, capable of capturing images at 60, 36, or 18 megapixels in DNG or JPEG formats.

Powered by the Maestro III processor, it offers lightning-fast performance and stores files on a 64 GB internal memory or SD card.

Seamless connectivity is ensured via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or cable through the Leica FOTOS App, with Content Credentials support for secure and verifiable image authenticity.

The Leica M EV1 will be available worldwide at Leica Stores, the Leica Online Store, and authorised dealers for $11,950.

An optional hand grip with matching leatherette is also available for $600, providing enhanced handling and comfort for Leica’s latest step into the future of photography.
