FUJIFILM Corporation is excited to announce the release of the FUJIFILM GFX100 II (GFX100II) on September 12, 2023, which marks the latest addition to the GFX Series of mirrorless digital cameras featuring a large format image sensor approximately 1.7 times larger than a 35mm full-frame sensor.
The GFX100 II introduces the newly-developed 102MP high-speed image sensor called “GFX 102MP CMOS II HS” and the high-speed image processing engine “X-Processor 5.” These innovations result in a signal readout speed that can be double that of the current model, leading to significant improvements in continuous shooting, autofocus (AF), and video recording capabilities.
This camera leverages its large format sensor to deliver exceptional image quality characterized by rich tonal reproducibility and vivid three-dimensional definition. Furthermore, the high-speed image sensor, coupled with the powerful image processing engine, enables the introduction of AI-based subject-detection AF, developed with Deep Learning technology, and the latest prediction AF algorithm from the X-H2S to the GFX Series for the first time. Burst shooting performance has also been enhanced from 5.0 frames per second to 8.0 frames per second, expanding its suitability across various genres, including fashion, commercial, landscape, sports, and news photography.
The integration of the new sensor also significantly enhances video recording capabilities. The camera can now record 4K/60P 4:2:2 10-bit video internally and supports 8K/30P video, a first for the GFX Series. It introduces “Video Format” modes to take full advantage of the large format sensor’s characteristics, accommodating various cine recording formats, such as Premista, 35mm, and anamorphic (35mm) with the mount adapter. This flexibility makes it suitable for a wide range of video recording scenarios, further enhanced by the improved sensor readout speed and tracking AF.
The GFX100 II offers expanded system expandability, featuring an Ethernet port, HDMI Type A, and USB-C terminals for increased connectivity with external devices. It also supports the cloud service “Frame.io Camera to Cloud” and timecode synchronization with ATMOS AirGluTM BT, streamlining workflow for users.
The camera now boasts non-extended ISO80 sensitivity and introduces the “REALA ACE” Film Simulation mode, enhancing image quality. Hardware enhancements include up to 8-stop five-axis in-body image stabilization (IBIS), 1.0x viewfinder magnification, and a high-magnification and high-definition EVF with 9.44 million dots. The camera’s design includes a large sub-LCD, a tilted top panel, and a new texture, reflecting improvements across all aspects to cater to the needs of professional photographers and videographers.
