Rolling out over the next few weeks to Google AI Pro subscribers, the new feature transforms Gemini from a chatbot that simply answers questions into an intelligent background agent capable of completing tasks on your behalf—even when your laptop is closed or your phone is locked.
Powered by Gemini 3.6 Flash, Spark is designed to quietly work in the cloud around the clock, helping users reclaim time by handling repetitive and time-consuming tasks automatically.
An AI That Keeps Working Around the Clock
Unlike traditional AI assistants that wait for commands, Gemini Spark is built to operate continuously under the user’s direction. Once a task is set up, Spark carries it out independently on Google’s secure cloud infrastructure without requiring the user to stay connected.
Because it integrates natively with Google Workspace, Spark can work seamlessly across Gmail, Google Docs, Sheets and Calendar without additional setup. Whether you’re asleep, travelling or away from your computer, the AI continues processing tasks in the background.

One example is the “Daily life-maxxer” prompt, where Spark checks for local events every Friday morning, compiles them into a continuously updated Google Doc and even adds the top recommendations directly into the user’s Google Calendar.
Instead of spending time searching for weekend activities, users receive a personalised itinerary that’s ready before the weekend even begins.
2. Helping You Save Money
Spark can also become a personal financial assistant.
Using the “Savvy dollar-saver” prompt, the AI scans invoices and receipts stored in Gmail each month, identifies subscription price increases, flags free trials that are about to expire, and even prepares cancellation emails for review before they’re sent.
Rather than manually checking every subscription, Spark proactively alerts users to unnecessary spending before charges appear on their bills.
3. Supporting Small Businesses
Entrepreneurs and freelancers can also benefit from Spark’s automation capabilities.
With the “Hustling entrepreneur” workflow, Spark monitors incoming customer enquiries, analyses the requests and prepares customised email replies recommending suitable services and pricing packages. The responses are saved as drafts, allowing business owners to review and send them with minimal effort.
