ZENITH and Collective Horology Reimagine the DEFY Skyline in Retro-Industrial Perfection

When two powerhouses in horology collaborate, expect the unexpected. In their latest joint creation, ZENITH and Collective Horology unveil the DEFY Skyline C.X Edition, a limited-edition timepiece that merges modern engineering with a stripped-down, retro-inspired aesthetic.

Limited to just 200 pieces, the C.X Edition reimagines the DEFY Skyline through the lens of 20th-century industrial design, leaning into a “less is more” philosophy that resonates deeply with seasoned collectors and design purists alike.

From Watch Enthusiasts, For Watch Enthusiasts
Collective Horology, a California-based community and retailer known for its curated collaborations and podcast Openwork, returns to its roots with this tenth collaborative series. The C.X Edition pays homage to their inaugural project with ZENITH—the Chronomaster El Primero C.01—while venturing boldly into new territory.

“The DEFY Skyline is like modern architecture for the wrist,” says ZENITH. “And the C.X Edition? It’s the Bauhaus reinterpretation—form, function, and a distinctly human touch.”

A Study in Design Discipline
Gone is the glossy sheen. In its place: a fully sandblasted matte steel case and bracelet, with just the slimmest edges of the dodecagonal bezel and case back polished to reflect light in subtle contrast. The result is a watch that looks sculpted, not manufactured—modern, but grounded in tactile tradition.

The silvery-grey dial maintains the DEFY Skyline’s signature starry motif but adds a three-dimensional gradient twist: deeper star engravings at the centre fade outward, creating both visual depth and texture.

For symmetry, the date window has been removed, and the 1/10th of a second counter—ZENITH’s high-frequency calling card—has been repositioned to 6 o’clock. A pop of high-contrast orange on the hand tip and the numeral “10” inject just the right amount of energy.

Powered by Precision
Beneath the dial, the El Primero 3620 automatic movement powers the DEFY Skyline C.X Edition. It ticks at a 5Hz frequency, enabling the ultra-precise 1/10th of a second display—a feat only ZENITH can claim in a production watch.

The 3620 movement also offers a 55-hour power reserve, a stop-second mechanism, and a sapphire caseback for movement appreciation.

Designed for Modern Life
Functionality extends beyond aesthetics. The DEFY Skyline C.X Edition includes both the integrated steel bracelet and a vibrant orange rubber strap with quick-change functionality—making the swap from office to adventure seamless.

At every angle, this timepiece balances boldness with restraint.
