Sarpaneva Unveils Mythical Näkki-Inspired Timepiece in Limited Edition

Sarpaneva has taken inspiration from a legendary beast of Scandinavian and Germanic culture, the ferocious and elusive Näkki, to create a mesmerizing new watch. Näkki, known for emerging from shadows to ensnare unsuspecting victims, is a humanoid, often shapeshifting water spirit.

This new timepiece tells the tale of Näkki’s encounter with the full moon, where it became trapped in a silvery bridge of light, only to vanish at dawn, leaving its fate a mystery.

This automatic self-winding wristwatch showcases the classic Sarpaneva case with its scalloped sides and crown positioned at 4 o’clock. Measuring 42mm x 11.4mm x 46mm, the case is crafted from high-grade Outokumpu stainless steel from Finland. The dial’s multi-layer construction includes over 650 cutouts, with the lower plate hand-painted in 15 different colours using Swiss Super-Luminova®.

During the day, the dial tells the Näkki’s story in a relatively discreet manner, revealing a swamp-like nature, a Moonface, and the barely visible Näkki on the right side. As a nocturnal creature, Näkki is brought to life under the moon’s light, adding a dynamic element to the watch’s appearance.

The back of the watch reveals a modified Soprod A10 calibre, an automatic movement now equipped with a moon phase complication. This movement is decorated by hand with perlage, rhodium-plated parts, and a partially lined stainless steel winding mass featuring the Sarpaneva Moonface.

The Sarpaneva X Näkki Blue Moon collaboration is a special edition created for The Hour Glass, limited to just 30 pieces. Retailing at SGD 33,000 including taxes, this timepiece is a true collector’s item, combining intricate craftsmanship with a captivating mythological narrative.
