TAG Heuer and Kith Revive Iconic 1986 Formula 1 Series in Bold Collaboration

In a move set to thrill collectors and enthusiasts alike, Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer has partnered with lifestyle brand Kith to reintroduce the original TAG Heuer Formula 1 Series 1, first released in 1986. This collaboration brings the iconic timepiece back with upgraded materials and ten bold new colourways inspired by TAG Heuer’s past standout models.

TAG Heuer, renowned for its precision-engineered timing instruments in motorsports, and Kith, a fashion leader known for its disruptive approach, have combined their expertise to revitalize this ’80s icon. The collaboration reflects the strong design codes and vibrant colours that have consistently inspired Kith founder Ronnie Fieg, who started his collection journey with a red-and-black TAG Heuer Formula 1.

A Treasured Design
For many collectors worldwide, the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Series 1 was a first love, igniting a passion for collecting with its forward-thinking design and electrifying colourways.

Originally released in 1986, it was the first watch to bear the TAG Heuer name and quickly became a favourite among new collectors. In recent years, it has gained popularity as a hot vintage watch, with admirers seeking it out on secondary sites.

Revitalizing the Cherished Model for 2024
The new TAG Heuer Formula 1 | Kith maintains the beloved elements of the original while updating it with modern materials.

The original plastic crystal has been replaced with sapphire, and the strap has been upgraded from plastic to rubber. The case supplier from 1986 was tracked down, ensuring the watch’s identity remains true to the piece that collectors fell in love with decades ago.

In a historic move, TAG Heuer has merged its logo with a collaborative partner for the first time. The TAG Heuer Formula 1 | Kith features a reworked insignia combining Kith and Heuer on the dial, rubber strap, and case back. The dial also includes Kith’s motto “Just Us,” a tribute to Fieg’s familial inner circle.

The Collection
The new collection features ten watches, available in stainless steel or rubber bracelet editions. Seven watches are exclusive to Kith, each paying tribute to a store in its global network with vibrant colours like sports car red, black-and-yellow, and a unique green, yellow, and red nod to the rare ’80s iteration made with Japanese F1 driver Ukyo Katayama. These Kith-exclusive models are limited to 250 pieces each.

Additionally, Kith offers two models with steel bracelets, one in blue bezel and the other in green, limited to 350 pieces each.

TAG Heuer presents two exclusives, each limited to 825 pieces, featuring vibrant blue and green bezels with black PVD cases and black dials. The first edition will launch in Miami on May 3rd, followed by a global release on May 6th.

A Shared Model for Collectors
A highlight of the collection is a shared model between TAG Heuer and Kith, limited to 1350 pieces.

This classic black-bezel watch with red accents comes on a steel bracelet with an eggshell dial reminiscent of the patinated versions from 1986. It combines modern features with a vintage aesthetic appeal.

The TAG Heuer Formula 1 | Kith remains faithful to the original, incorporating elements like the form hour hand, triangle-with-dot at noon, alternating indices, and contrasting minutes.

Each watch will be presented in a high-end box evoking its colourful design, with a collectable box containing all ten limited-edition watches available for the most dedicated collectors.
