What’s travelling without a solid pair of earphones? Thankfully, during my recent trip to Japan, I was accompanied by Sennheiser’s Momentum True Wireless 4 to keep me grooving with great music. It has been 2 years since the last Momentum True Wireless was launched and I’m excited to experience how this latest version performs with the new licensing agreement with Sonova AG. Not only that, there are more than a dozen major upgrades made to this new version so you can tell that my curiosity is at its peak.

Not only that, the Adaptive Noise Cancellation (ANC) came in so handy, especially in noisy locations. During the cherry blossom season in late March and April, key cherry blossom locations like Sensō-ji at Asakusa in the photo have festivals with food and games. Well, you can imagine that it can get pretty noisy. With this feature combined with the excellent sound, I was immediately immersed in my music. These earbuds automatically adjust to your surroundings. Plus, when you need to tune into the world around you, the Transparency Mode brings in those ambient sounds naturally. It’s like having a volume knob for the world!
What’s cool about the Momentum True Wireless 4 is its forward-thinking design. With support for Auracast™ and LE Audio, the Bluetooth audio experience is enhanced. For some locations with Auracast, you can use the Momentum True Wireless 4 to tune in. These features are available via a firmware update, but it’s like getting a sneak peek into the next generation of audio streaming and sharing.
Comfort is key when it comes to earbuds, especially for those long listening sessions. In my case, long buses or rides that can clock over hours. During these rides, I usually take the time to listen to calming music like a Studio Ghibli Lofi soundtrack and take a relaxing nap. Thankfully, Sennheiser prioritised comfort. With soft silicone ear tips and fins in multiple sizes, these earbuds provide a snug and comfortable fit. You can wear them all day without feeling the need to take them out.
We’ve all been there – enjoying our favourite tunes, only to be interrupted by that dreaded low battery warning. Well, with the Momentum True Wireless 4, that’s a thing of the past. With up to 30 hours of playtime and a quick 8-minute charge giving you an hour of playback, you can keep the music going all day long. The only time I needed to charge in my trip was before and after when I came back. Isn’t that crazy?
Aside from the music and comforting experience the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 has given, I could customise how I wanted to consume my music. Developed in partnership with Germany’s Fraunhofer IDMT, this feature intelligently calibrates a custom audio profile based on your preferences. Whether you’re into guided tests, adaptive EQ, or pre-set modes, there’s something here to tailor your listening experience just for you.
Also, let’s talk about another ingenious feature, sound zones. From its name, you can vaguely infer the use of this feature. To put it simply, it allows users to customise their listening experience further by adjusting sound settings based on different environments or activities, enhancing immersion and adaptability. In my case, I tested it out by putting a sound zone at Nagoya Meitetsu Station where I was going to be taking most of my trains. Once I entered the sound zone with the Momentum True Wireless 4, I was able to hear a significant change based on the settings I made.
Pairing your devices, controlling your music, and even charging – everything feels effortless with the Momentum True Wireless 4. And let’s not forget about the high-quality 6-mic system that ensures crystal-clear calls, even in noisy environments. It’s like having a personal assistant in your ear!
