Google Pixel 8: A Glimpse into the Future of Smartphones

Having spent some quality time with the Google Pixel 8, I’m eager to share my thoughts on this latest offering from Google.

The Pixel 8 is a leap into a future where AI and personalization take centre stage. Check out a video I took at the Disney Immersive Singapore exhibition!

    Stunning Design and Display
Right out of the box, the Pixel 8’s design captivated me. It is noticeably sleek, with contoured edges that fit comfortably in my hand. The 6.2-inch Actua display is a clear upgrade – it’s 42% brighter and offers stunning clarity.

The display quality is impressive. Whether I was browsing the web, watching videos, or playing games, the colours popped, and the details were crisp. The improved brightness made a noticeable difference, especially when using the phone outdoors.

    Performance
Powered by the Google Tensor G3 chip, the Pixel 8 handles everything I throw at it with ease. From multitasking to gaming, the performance is smooth and lag-free. What impressed me the most was how the AI seamlessly integrates into everyday tasks, making the user experience more intuitive and personalised.

    Camera Excellence
One of the areas where the Pixel series has always shone is in its camera capabilities, and the Pixel 8 takes it to another level. The camera system has been upgraded across the board, promising stunning photo and video quality.

I was blown away by the main camera’s performance in low-light conditions. It captured photos and videos with exceptional clarity and detail. The introduction of a new ultrawide lens brought impressive Macro Focus capabilities, while the telephoto lens captured 56% more light, resulting in optical-quality 10x photos. Even the front-facing camera now boasts autofocus, ensuring that my selfies look their best.

But what truly sets the Pixel 8’s camera experience apart is the Magic Editor in Google Photos. This innovative feature harnesses the power of generative AI to elevate your photo editing to a whole new level. It understands the essence of the moments you capture and assists you in refining your photos accordingly. Look at the difference!

With just a few taps, you can effortlessly reposition and resize subjects, or apply presets that make the background pop, transforming your photos into visual masterpieces that truly reflect the emotions of the moment. It’s like having a personal photo editing assistant right at your fingertips, ensuring that your memories are perfectly preserved.

I especially love the AI function of removing people in the background. When I went to the Disney exhibition, I wanted to take a picture of the cool Ariel backdrop. However, as many kids were running around, it was hard to catch a perfect picture of just the background. This is where the AI function comes in handy. It did such a great job of removing the kids in the background.

They even have a function to ensure that my photos are always straight, aligned, and levelled, ensuring perfect photos.

Additionally, I can even identify objects or do a translation if there is text in the image through Google Lens!

    Intelligent Features
The Pixel 8 isn’t just about impressive hardware; it also comes with a range of intelligent features to enhance the user experience. The Summarise feature, for instance, generated summaries of web pages, which is very handy.

    In Conclusion
In conclusion, my experience with the Google Pixel 8 has been nothing short of fantastic. It’s a smartphone that truly reflects the future of mobile technology. With its stunning design, powerful camera capabilities, intelligent features, and long-term software support, it has exceeded my expectations.

Starting at S$1,099, the Pixel 8 offers tremendous value for what it delivers. It’s not just a phone; it’s an experience that will elevate your smartphone usage. Find out more here.
