Sony Electronics Unveils α6700: The Ultimate APS-C Mirrorless Camera

Sony Electronics has recently announced the launch of its latest APS-C mirrorless camera, the α6700 (ILCE-6700), which stands as Sony’s most advanced APS-C mirrorless camera to date. This groundbreaking offering combines the cutting-edge features of the Full-frame Alpha and Cinema Line series with the compact and lightweight design of the popular α6000 series.

The α6700 packs a powerful punch with its 26.0 effective megapixels APS-C back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS image sensor, paired with Sony’s advanced BIONZ XR processing engine. This combination delivers exceptional imaging performance without compromising on the camera’s sleek form factor.

One of the standout features of the α6700 is its remarkable 4K video recording capability, supporting up to 120fps. It boasts an impressive latitude of 14+ stops, allowing users to capture stunning details even in challenging lighting conditions. The camera also features the S-Cinetone™ picture profile, known for its professional-grade movie imagery and natural representation of human skin tones.

Additionally, Sony has introduced the ECM-M1 shotgun microphone for videographers and vloggers, featuring high-quality sound and multiple sound pickup modes.

The α6700 incorporates highly accurate subject recognition thanks to its AI processing unit inherited from the “α7R V,” enabling Real-Time Recognition AF (autofocus) for various subjects like humans, animals, birds, insects, cars, trains, and aeroplanes. Its versatility is further enhanced when used with the newly launched FE 70-200mm F4.0 G Macro OSS II, which offers extended focal lengths in 35mm Full-frame equivalent, making telephoto shooting a breeze.

When it comes to video performance, the α6700 takes full advantage of its 6K equivalent data output, resulting in superior 4K video quality, including support for high-frame-rate recording at 120fps.

It comes equipped with S-Log3 for exceptional gradation and S-Cinetone for impressive skin tone depiction. The camera’s AI-driven Auto-Framing eliminates the need for manual camera movement while tracking subjects, and its Multi-Interface (MI) Shoe allows direct digital audio transmission for capturing high-quality sound with the ECM-M1 shotgun microphone.

In terms of design and connectivity, the α6700 remains highly portable with a compact and lightweight build, along with a touch-operable vari-angle LCD monitor and user-friendly touch menu. Its customizable front and switching dials add to the ease of use. The camera supports seamless uploads of videos and still images to cloud services through the Creators’ App.

Accompanying the α6700, Sony introduces the world’s first shotgun microphone with eight dial-selectable audio recording modes, the ECM-M1. This versatile microphone offers superior audio quality, with modes for ultra-directional sound capture and various noise reduction utilities.

With its groundbreaking technology and design, the α6700 empowers creators with mobility, precision, and high-quality performance, making it a game-changer in the world of APS-C mirrorless cameras.
