Panasonic is setting a new standard for semi-rugged mobile computing with the launch of its TOUGHBOOK 55 notebook. Pioneering new levels of flexibility, productivity and performance, the TOUGHBOOK 55 is a game-changing device that allows users to customise it for different tasks in the field, taking its place among the new class of secure notebooks that Panasonic is developing with Microsoft to radically improve workforce flexibility and productivity while delivering maximum return on investment for businesses.
With the TOUGHBOOK 55, workers can tailor the device based on their working requirements while on the move, with options to boost the device’s graphic capabilities, add a smartcard reader, additional storage or a DVD or Blu-Ray drive – all within a simple switch, fit and click into the TOUGHBOOK Universal Bay. In addition, the front expansion slot can be used to quickly integrate a fingerprint reader, RFID or regular smart card reader or the addition of a second battery.
Available in Singapore from 21 November via authorised distributors, the 14” TOUGHBOOK 55 comes in three versions – HD, Full-HD and Full-HD Touch Screen – with prices starting from US$2,400. At purchase, users can also customise three additional ports for the device using its expansion slot, VGA and True Serial, as well as add a 4th USB, 2nd GLAN or Rugged USB 2.0 port.
Ideal for Mobile Work in Harsh Working Environments
The ability to work all day without running out of battery is one of the most critical needs for workers who are in the field for extended periods of time. With a battery life of up to 20 hours1, and an extended capability of 40 hours with the addition of a second battery, the TOUGHBOOK 55 is built to stand the test of time. Slim (32.8mm) and lightweight (2.08kg), the device is also easily portable with its premium built-in designed handle.
Built to be even tougher than its predecessor, the TOUGHBOOK 55 comes enhanced with an Ingress Protection Rating (IP53) to safeguard the device against dust, water splash and drops of up to 91cm (MIL-STD810H). The device’s operation capabilities in extreme temperatures have also been enhanced, comfortably operating in extreme temperatures ranging from -20°C to +60°C*.
Optimised for Productivity Anytime, Anywhere
Designed for easy use when docked in vehicles, the TOUGHBOOK 55 has enhanced voice recognition and speaker volume capabilities. With optional 4 mics, the device has an incredible voice recognition rate of 98%. Alongside its improved stereo speaker capabilities (92 dBA), the TOUGHBOOK 55 includes an optional 2MP front camera with IR and privacy shutter for video conferencing and is easy to use for in-vehicle conversations or in noisy work environments.
The TOUGHBOOK 55 keyboard has also been enhanced and is now customisable for more efficient work. An optional colour-changeable keyboard backlight can be specified by buyers, featuring isolated keys to make for easy typing and resin painted letters for easy viewing in light or dark environments.
Screen interaction has also been enhanced, with users now having the ability to choose how they interact with the capacitive touch screen – with up to 10 finger touch mode, with or without gloves, or by using a stylus with a fine nib of 2mm for precise writing and accuracy2. In addition, the device can be used in different kinds of lighting environments, from bright sunlight to areas where light must be kept to a minimum, with screen brightness that can be adjusted from a minimum of 2 cd/m2 to a maximum of 1000 cd/m2.
Protection Against Physical and Digital Attacks
While rugged features protect the TOUGHBOOK 55 against physical damage and flexible customisation allows storage to be easily removed for sensible data protection, security for the device has been further enhanced to prevent malicious attacks to the system. The TOUGHBOOK 55 is one of the first notebooks in the market to include a new advanced security platform, making it a modern Windows 10 Pro device with hardware, software, and identity protection fully enabled out of the box.
The combination of the 8th generation Intel Core i5 vPro processor, Panasonic advanced components and Windows 10 Pro features provide the highest protection against firmware attacks, securing BIOS phase and device attacks securing the data access even when the OS is in stand-by mode.
The TOUGHBOOK 55 also offers identity protection with the optional fingerprint reader, smart card reader, contactless smart card reader and Windows Hello facial recognition through an optional front camera, fully protecting the device from start-up to shut-down.
