When my boss handed me the new Google Nest Hub, I was at a loss. I didn’t know how this smart device would fit into my daily life, considering that my house is not exactly a smart home and the fact that I am just a university student. I placed this small stylish device at the corner of my room and it looked like it was meant to be there from the start. It took me less than 10 minutes to have everything set up, and I was so excited to use it! Do note that it is required to be plugged into a powerpoint at all times.
Playing Around with the Google Nest Hub
Even though the only smart device that I was able to use with the Google Nest Hub is a security camera (again, my home is not a smart home!), I still really loved the other features of the device.
For instance, a casual “Hey Google, play some pop music please” filled my whole room with Spotify’s “Pop songs” playlist as I am getting ready for work or school. What surprised me was the sound quality of this miniature tablet! It was really impressive for its size – the music was clear throughout the whole room! While the Google Assistant is rather accurate on the voice command function, get ready for interruptions from your family even when their voices are not registered. I had to deal with my mum and sisters messing around with my music (I guess we all sound alike!) when I was getting ready and it got pretty annoying quickly.
It is a known fact that University students are real busy. From studying to socialising, we always feel so exhausted when we get back to our beds. With the Google Nest Hub, the voice command function makes things so much easier for us. Gone are the days where you might oversleep for classes or project meetings because you were too tired the night before to manually set an alarm. Just say, “Hey Google, set an alarm for 9 in the morning,” and that should do the job. The ambient light sensor of this device finetunes the brightness and warmth of images to suit the surroundings, which means no worries about blinding your eyes when you wake up in the middle of the night to go to the toilet!
Sometimes, I tend to forget meal appointments and gatherings with friends because of how busy I am – this is where the Google Nest Hub comes in handy. I am allowed to personalise my day-to-day schedule and Google Nest Hub would remind me of my schedule!
The Best Gift for Busy Parents
When I brought this home, my mum was so impressed by it. She looked up recipes and even watched YouTube videos on it. She also used it to watch our home security camera (the only smart device we have, remember) from inside the room whenever someone comes knocking at the door at awkward timings at night. The replay of family photos on this digital photo frame also allows my mum some time to reminisce about the good ole days, now that we are all grown up and rarely home.
The Google Nest Hub is a great product to have – it will make things so much more convenient and easier, especially for those who hustle all day and return home deadbeat tired.
