Canon Announces EOS R5 Mark II: A New Era in Full-Frame Mirrorless Cameras

Canon unveiled the EOS R5 Mark II, a groundbreaking full-frame mirrorless camera designed to surpass the acclaimed EOS R5. With innovative features such as a 45-megapixel back-illuminated (BSI) stacked CMOS sensor and an Accelerated Capture image processor system, the EOS R5 Mark II is set to redefine the standards of performance and creativity.

Unprecedented Performance with New Core Technology
At the heart of the EOS R5 Mark II is the new 45-megapixel BSI stacked CMOS sensor, paired with an Accelerated Capture System that includes the all-new DIGIC Accelerator and the DIGIC X image processor.

This powerful combination allows for processing high volumes of data at unparalleled speeds, enabling new features and setting new standards for autofocus (AF) performance.

Advanced Autofocus Capabilities
The EOS R5 Mark II features the Dual Pixel Intelligent AF system, leveraging deep learning to enhance subject tracking and detection. This system ensures highly accurate tracking, even in complex scenes, and includes a Register People Priority function to prioritize specific subjects in crowded environments. The new Action Priority AF mode is designed for sports photography, automatically adjusting the focus to capture fast-paced action.

For the first time in the “5 series,” Eye Control AF allows users to shift the AF frame simply by looking at their subject. This feature and an updated line-of-sight detection algorithm provide faster and more stable eye movement detection. Photographers and videographers can also store and recall up to six different AF settings, enabling quick adjustments for various shooting scenarios.

Cinema-Quality Video Production
The EOS R5 Mark II offers exceptional video capabilities, including internal 8K DCI 60p RAW and various industry-standard recording modes. It supports 4K DCI 60p SRAW recording, enabling high-quality video with reduced resource demands. Users can simultaneously record proxy files for efficient editing and enjoy slow-motion recording in 4K and Full HD.

The camera also supports the Cinema EOS system’s Custom Pictures, allowing users to apply LUTs for better visualization during shooting.

Seamless Integration with Cinema EOS
The EOS R5 Mark II uses the XF-AVC S/XF-HEVC S file system, compatible with Cinema EOS workflows. It includes tools like waveform monitors and false colours for precise exposure control and supports high-quality audio recording with Linear PCM 24-bit 4-channel input.

Optimized for Professional Use
With features like reduced rolling shutter distortion, external Apple ProRes RAW recording, and advanced heat dissipation, the EOS R5 Mark II is built for demanding shoots. The optional Cooling Fan CF-R20EP extends 8K recording times, and the camera supports the latest wireless and wired communication protocols for efficient file transfer.
