Apple’s latest upgrade, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus

A beautifully durable lifestyle phone, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus has been hot in the news recently. I brought both phones out on a day out with me, excited to try all its new features.

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus comes in well-liked 6.1-inch and gorgeous new 6.7-inch sizes in five lovely colours. The iPhone 14 Plus has the best battery life of any iPhone ever, and its larger display is fantastic for watching movies and playing games.

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus has outstanding performance thanks to the A15 Bionic. The 5-core GPU enables even smoother graphics for video apps and high-performance gaming, and powers amazing camera features like Photonic Engine and Cinematic mode, all while delivering impressive battery life and safeguarding privacy and security with the Secure Enclave.

The first things I downloaded were games, being an avid phone gamer. I enjoyed how vibrant the images were on the phone, where OLED technology delivers incredible contrast. High resolution and colour accuracy make everything look sharp and true to life, while True Tone makes your display easier on the eyes by adjusting to the ambient light. I tested out 2 games, Tower of Fantasy and Asphalt 9: Legends. These 2 games really brought out the visuals of the same the best. With a resolution of 2778 x 1284 pixels, the iPhone 14 Plus has a slightly higher resolution compared to the iPhone 14 (2532 x 1170 pixels), which will be fairly hard to notice during daily use. Personally, I preferred playing on the iPhone 14 Plus compared to iPhone 14, as the bigger screen meant that more features could be seen.

I used the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus to test out the camera quality. Cool new features include a new Action mode that produces remarkably smooth-looking video and compensates for large shaking, movements, and vibrations, even when the action is being recorded. Look at the difference in the side-by-side comparison below!

A new Main camera and improved image processing let me capture even more sensational shots in all kinds of light, especially in low light. Even with the low lighting at the ice cream museum, the photos turned out beautifully.

A brighter and more uniform True Tone flash allows for greater uniformity for more reliable lighting. In terms of battery life, you can get up to 26 hours of video playback on the iPhone 14 Plus and up to 20 hours of video playback on the iPhone 14. Even while playing these high-intensity games, the battery life held up and the battery lasted till I reached home.

The Ultra Wide camera provides a distinctive viewpoint for broader views and enhances low-light images with the Photonic Engine.

Using autofocus for the first time, the new front TrueDepth camera can focus even faster in low light.

Here are the other apps I tried on the 14 and 14 Plus. These are the lifestyle apps that have been keeping me company in my daily life, and that truly bring out the best features of the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus.

The first app is Wakeout, which is an app for home workouts. I enjoyed this app as it even included mindfulness exercises that I can end my day with, and focus timers which I really appreciate.

The next app is Flighty, which I used it to track my friend’s flight to London. It is very convenient even when planning trips as I can see my best flight options.

This is a cool app where I can aim the app to the sky and it will automatically identify any star, constellation, planet or satellite! It is intuitive and easy to use, and an app to impress.

As a first in the industry, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus include vital safety features like Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via satellite.

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus will be available in midnight, blue, starlight, purple, and red finishes for S$1,299 and S$1,499 respectively at Apple stores.
