Dell Technologies has introduced the Dell 14S, a new lightweight Windows laptop aimed at students and young adults looking for a balance of portability, battery life and everyday performance. Announced at IFA 2026 in Berlin, the new model brings several features normally associated with more premium ultraportables into a more accessible notebook.
Design is a major part of the Dell 14S proposition. Instead of sticking to conventional silver and black finishes, Dell is offering the laptop in Linen, Dusty Rose, Washed Denim and Velvet Green. All four versions use an aluminium chassis measuring just 13.5mm thick and weighing 1.15kg, making the notebook particularly suited to users who regularly carry their computer between classes, work and home.
Battery life is another highlight, with Dell claiming up to 21 hours of video playback on a single charge under its testing conditions. Behind that figure is a new 750ED PNCM high-energy-density battery, designed to provide greater capacity without significantly increasing the laptop’s weight or cost. Dell says the battery is also engineered to run cooler under load and retain its capacity over time.
Buyers will have a choice between two 16:10 displays depending on their priorities. A 2.8K panel with a 120Hz refresh rate provides the sharper and smoother option, while a 2K 60Hz display is aimed at those who place greater emphasis on battery life and value. Dell says both panels offer bright output with vibrant and accurate colours.
Under the hood, the Dell 14S can be configured with Intel Core 5 or Core 7 Series 3 processors. The hardware is intended for the kind of multitasking typical of school and everyday productivity, including working across multiple browser tabs, documents and applications.
Dell has also equipped the notebook for hybrid learning and work. An FHD camera is paired with far-field dual-array microphones and stereo speakers for video calls, while Wi-Fi 6E handles wireless connectivity. Windows Hello is included for secure sign-in, alongside two USB-C ports with Power Delivery, HDMI and a headphone jack.
The Dell 14S sits alongside rather than replacing Dell’s more premium XPS 13. The idea is to give customers a choice between the higher-end ultraportable experience of the XPS and a more accessible machine focused on the priorities of students and younger users.
The Dell 14S will be available later this fall, with pricing to be announced closer to availability.
