Hydroneer Marks 6 Years of Mining & Forging with PS5 & Xbox Series X|S Release Date

UK-based developer Foulball Hangover has announced that its acclaimed mining and automation sandbox game, Hydroneer, will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on May 8, 2026, marking the sixth anniversary of its original PC release. First released on Steam in May 2020, Hydroneer became a sleeper hit in the crafting and basebuilding genres, selling over one million copies and cultivating a dedicated online community through consistent updates and feature expansions, including the addition of couch co-op multiplayer.

The upcoming console versions will remain faithful to the core PC experience, with optimised controls and interface adjustments tailored for console players.

At its heart, Hydroneer offers a hands-on mining and crafting system where players physically dig through terrain to uncover smeltable ore and valuable gemstones, then use conveyor belts, drills, harvesters, and intricate piping systems to construct fully automated mining and smelting operations. Set within an open world featuring multiple dig sites, NPC communities, quest-givers, and shops, the game encourages experimentation and large-scale engineering creativity. A standout feature is its couch co-op mode, allowing up to four players to collaborate locally on ambitious automation projects.

The console release will also support the Journey to Volcalidus expansion, first introduced in 2024 and sold separately from the base game. The expansion introduces a sprawling new map set in the land of Volcalidus, a world more than six times larger than the original, alongside lava-powered automation technology that enables players to mine deep beneath icy shelves.

Players can also rebuild the settlement of New Glade from the ground up, unlocking new items and creating a refuge from the harsh climate as the town is restored. With its console debut, Foulball Hangover invites players to join the growing Hydroneer community and share feedback as the studio celebrates six years of mining, forging, and automation innovation.

Hydroneer will be coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
