Opening the camera reveals Camera Coach, your personal photography guide powered by on-device Gemini models. Rather than overwhelming you with controls, it offers real-time prompts that subtly refine composition, balance and framing. During low-light shooting at the big Christmas Tree outside Taka, Camera Coach suggested gentle angle adjustments that instantly improved contrast and reduced backlighting. It feels like having a seasoned photographer beside you.
Group photography sees a major redesign with Add Me, which solves the age-old problem of the photographer being excluded. The phone guides you to take the first shot, then prompts you to hand the device to someone else so you can step into the frame. It merges both shots seamlessly, handling even large groups and pets with accurate lighting and natural shadows.
Working alongside Add Me is Auto Best Take, which automatically selects the ideal facial expressions from multiple frames and merges them into one final image. Group photos become a single tap instead of a coordinated effort.
Portrait Mode receives a substantial boost through 50MP Portraits, now delivering some of the highest-resolution portrait shots available on any smartphone. Using the full capability of the main sensor, the Pixel 10 Pro XL renders crisp details in hair, fabric and skin texture. Shooting portraits under the warm Christmas glow produced results with depth and nuance.
Zoom photography is transformed through ProRes Zoom, allowing up to 100× magnification using a blend of optical data, multi-frame processing and generative AI. It is not simply enlarging pixels; it reconstructs missing detail intelligently. I captured a beautiful picture of the moon~ Even at high magnifications, details such as patterns, edges and text remained surprisingly sharp.
Performance across the Pixel 10 Pro XL’s entire camera system is exceptional. At House of Tan Yeok Nee, the phone balanced warm lantern tones with deep shadows while maintaining a strong texture on carved wooden pillars.
Inside the National Museum, spotlighted displays were captured with controlled highlights, clean shadows and minimal glare.
Along Orchard Road, where neon lights blend with reflective cars and moving crowds, the Pixel produced crisp, vibrant images free from the noise or colour cast typical of night shots. Night Sight Video also delivered impressive stabilisation and natural colours, even when walking through busy streets.
The improvements extend beyond photography into video. The Pixel 10 Pro XL introduces improved stabilisation powered by Video Boost, transforming the way you capture motion. AI Assistance
Beyond the camera, the Pixel 10 Pro XL pushes forward a new kind of smartphone intelligence. Magic Cue surfaces information before you search for it. For example, it can bring up flight details the moment you call your airline, or offer relevant addresses when someone messages you.
Gemini Live enables hands-free, conversational interaction with real-world awareness, allowing you to point your camera at an object or scene and receive instant suggestions or explanations.
Beyond daily assistance, Gemini has also become a powerful creative and research tool in my workflow. I used Gemini AI to generate visual concepts and dive deeper into topics.
