MB&F Celebrates 20 Years with Two Daring “Longhorn” Creations

LM Sequential Flyback Longhorn and the LM Perpetual Longhorn

Independent watchmaker MB&F (Maximilian Büsser & Friends) kicks off its 20th anniversary with two limited-edition timepieces that embody the brand’s audacity, artistry, and mechanical mastery.

Introducing the LM Perpetual Longhorn and LM Sequential Flyback Longhorn, each limited to just 20 pieces — both a tribute to two decades of avant-garde watchmaking and to the “Friends” who made it possible.

When Maximilian Büsser left his role at Harry Winston in 2005 to establish MB&F, few could have imagined the trajectory that lay ahead. What began as a small creative lab experimenting with sculptural “machines” that tell time has evolved into one of the most influential forces in contemporary horology. Today, MB&F employs over 60 artisans and engineers and has created more than 20 groundbreaking calibres, each more audacious than the last.

The Legacy Machine Perpetual Longhorn: Classical Complexity, Reimagined
First launched in 2015, the LM Perpetual was a game-changer — a reinvention of the traditional perpetual calendar, co-created with Stephen McDonnell, MB&F’s long-time collaborator from Northern Ireland. The movement’s “mechanical processor” replaced the conventional grand lever system, eliminating the risk of skipping dates or jamming gears — common pitfalls of traditional designs.

Now, in its 20th Anniversary “Longhorn” form, this masterpiece receives a stainless-steel case, rhodium-plated base plate, and glossy black lacquer dials, offset by blued hands and, of course, the signature elongated lugs. Beneath its sculptural design beats a manual-wound calibre comprising 581 components and offering 72 hours of power reserve. Each detail is hand-finished in the 19th-century Swiss tradition — Geneva waves, polished bevels, and meticulous internal angles that underscore MB&F’s obsession with craft.

The Legacy Machine Sequential Flyback Longhorn: The Art of Precision and Speed
The second anniversary edition, the LM Sequential Flyback Longhorn, continues MB&F’s spirit of mechanical audacity. First introduced in 2022, the LM Sequential EVO marked MB&F’s first chronograph — and went on to win the Aiguille d’Or, watchmaking’s highest honour, at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG). Its revolutionary Twinverter switch allowed multiple timing modes: independent, split-second, cumulative, and lap-timer.

This Flyback edition adds yet another layer of sophistication, integrating a dual chronograph flyback system for rapid restarts — a feature originally conceived for pilots. The watch’s manual-winding movement boasts 619 components, 63 jewels, and a 72-hour power reserve, housed in a 44mm stainless-steel case. The dual sub-dials, glossy black lacquer finish, and bold blue accents lend it a dynamic, almost futuristic aesthetic — a fitting visual metaphor for MB&F’s two-decade-long quest to blend engineering brilliance with artistic vision.

A Legacy of Art, Friendship, and Imagination
Since its founding, MB&F has defied convention. Its creations — from Horological Machines inspired by space travel and architecture to the more classical Legacy Machines — reimagine what mechanical art can be.

Each piece is the result of collaboration among dozens of artisans, engineers, and designers — the “Friends” in Maximilian Büsser & Friends.
