As Breguet continues its global 250th anniversary celebration—from Paris to Shanghai—it makes a stylish stopover in New York with the debut of two exceptional timepieces: the Type XX Chronographe 2075. These modern tributes honour a rich legacy of aviation, daring adventure, and horological mastery, drawing inspiration from a rare 1955 civilian Breguet chronograph.
A Nod to Aviation History
The two new Type XX models reflect the spirit of innovation shared by Abraham-Louis Breguet and his great-great-grandson, aviation pioneer Louis Breguet.
This lineage took flight—literally—in 1930, when aviators Dieudonné Costes and Maurice Bellonte flew non-stop from Paris to New York in a red Breguet 19TR aircraft, famously emblazoned with a white question mark.
Breguet captures this audacity in the Type XX 2075 with two versions: a bold black anodised aluminium dial variant and a refined solid silver dial version. Both are encased in 38.3 mm Breguet gold, an exclusive alloy first introduced in 2025, and each model proudly incorporates a flyback chronograph function—a feature essential to mid-century pilots.
The Revival of an Icon
These watches are not just reimaginings—they are reverent reinterpretations.
Their dimensions and movement choices echo the original gold Type XXs from 1955. Breguet only made three gold Type XXs back then, breaking away from the traditional steel norm of pilot watches. Today, the new 2075 models offer that same allure for purists, collectors, and connoisseurs.
● The black-dial model features a manually wound calibre 7279 with a 15-minute counter and small seconds, visible through a sapphire case back engraved with the route of the 1930 transatlantic flight.
● The silver-dial version, limited to 250 numbered pieces, houses the calibre 7278 with a 30-minute counter and a tachymeter scale, offering both function and elegance.
Masterful Craftsmanship Meets Materials Innovation
The black dial’s use of anodised aluminium pays tribute to Louis Breguet’s pioneering use of Duralumin in aircraft construction.
It’s a first for Breguet’s collections, and the “Al” mark subtly placed between 7 and 8 o’clock confirms its presence. The silver dial, on the other hand, offers a vertically brushed brilliance, punctuated with a discreet “Ag925” marking for purity.
Each dial is meticulously finished, with applied Arabic numerals, the iconic Breguet name, and luminous hands in 18K Breguet gold. The straps, in gradient calfskin leather (black or blue), are easily interchangeable and secured with gold pin buckles.
A Legacy that Lives On.
Beyond the precision and elegance of these timepieces lies a deeper story—of aviation firsts, of fearless inventors, and of a watchmaker that continues to redefine boundaries.
