Louis Erard Collaborates with Konstantin Chaykin to Create a One-eyed Monster Watch

Louis Erard, a Swiss watchmaker known for producing beautiful and affordable watches, has established itself as a mentor for cross-disciplinary collaborations under the guidance of Manuel Emch. The company has worked with various fields, such as art (guillochage, marquetry, enamel), creators (seconde/seconde, atelier oï, Label Noir, Massena Lab), and independent watchmakers (Alain Silberstein, Vianney Halter) – with more collaborations to come.

Konstantin Chaykin is a member of AHCI (Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants) and is globally renowned for his innovative designs (94 patents). He is particularly known for creating watches with monster faces. In 2017, he launched the Wristmons collection, which has been expanding every year since and now features a large family of unique and quirky monsters.

When Louis Erard and Konstantin Chaykin teamed up, they created a peculiar creature – a one-eyed monster brought to life by mechanical movements. Unlike traditional watches that display time, this watch looks back at the wearer with a single, large, round eye.

This unique design draws inspiration from Konstantin Chaykin’s previous Wristmons collection and specifically the first Joker watch, which featured white discs marked with a dot to serve as both the pupil and indicator. Konstantin Chaykin is known for his unconventional designs, and Louis Erard has also earned a reputation for producing special editions that bring together the worlds of affordable Swiss watchmaking and high creativity. Each edition is limited to 178 pieces, symbolizing their motto, “Together we are always stronger.”

Konstantin Chaykin was given carte blanche to create a design based on the architecture of Louis Erard’s signature regulator watch, which features a central minute, an hour at noon, and a second at six o’clock. All that was left was for Chaykin to design the face with one eye. He chose to use the eye of the Likho, a mythical creature, as a protective amulet against evil spirits.

The creature is completed with a black toad strap and comes in two versions. A purple hour circle for the 39 mm piece and a green one for the 42 mm. Le Régulateur Louis Erard x Konstantin Chaykin is a limited edition of 178 pieces and retails for S$6,270 with GST.
