The Google Pixel 3 series has been an underdog choice for Android enthusiasts who appreciate some of the technical supremacy of the Pixel hardware and software. The price has always been a deterrent, in addition to a few “outdated” aspects of the smartphone, like a single rear camera lens (balanced by ultra-advanced AI image processing), thick bezels, and single physical nanoSIM, which are all uncharacteristic of a flagship smartphone.<\/p>\n

\"Google<\/p>\n

With the launch of Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL, even the budget-conscious can now own a Google-brand smartphone with most of the goodness. At one glance, it would be hard to tell the Pixel 3a from the Pixel 3, as the external design is identical. Even though the back replaces glass with plastic, it feels pretty similar, and while glass is a more premium material, plastic is certainly more durable.<\/p>\n

Look closer at the front panel and the differences will start to show. Compared to the Pixel 3, the Pixel 3a has only a single front camera with conventional bezels all around. The Pixel 3a XL is just a larger-sized Pixel 3a without bezels, unlike the Pixel 3 XL. The midrange series also do not have the luxury of unlimited storage of original resolution images on Google Photos cloud.<\/p>\n

Running on Qualcomm Snapdragon 670, the Pixel 3a does not perform as elegantly, with general speed bumps and occasional stutters. Wireless charging capability is also absent. But the camera quality is similar to the premium variant, the stereo speakers deliver clear and wide sound, and you get a bonus 3.5mm audio jack which the Pixel 3 does not have. Most importantly, you get to enjoy the intelligent OS that monitors your smartphone usage and improves your experience. It even recognises the songs playing near you automatically.<\/p>\n

Reviewing the Pixel 3a made me appreciate the Pixel 3 even more, the latter offering a smoother UI and extends the Google experience through the Pixel Wireless Charging Stand.<\/p>\n
